News from Ms. Hess
We visited Colonial Manor Nursing home this Wednesday to conduct intergenerational interviews. It was lovely to see your children practice empathy, attentive listening, and compassion in this service activity. We will be using the information gathered to write a compare and contrast essay next week in writing.
In math this week we worked with adding and subtracting unlike fractions using the least common denominator.
This week in writing, we practiced our editing procedures and began editing our own work. We also learned about verbs and consistent verb tense in our writing.
In literacy, we learned about the elements of historical fiction and read many examples relating to the time period of the Underground Railroad. We learned about considering the levels of setting and that we needed to build our schema regarding the social, economic and political conditions of the time.
In time traveling, we learned about the first 13 early English colonies and created persuasive presentations and billboards to present to 4th graders today.
