PROPOSITION CARDINALS
During their monthly meeting on Monday, January 22, 2024, the Clinton School District Board of Education unanimously approved to place two resolutions on the April 2, 2024 election ballot. The Board of Education vote followed recommendations by staff, community members, and a Facilities Assessment conducted by Incite Design Studio.
Proposition Cardinals features two questions on the April ballot. Answering yes to both questions will have zero impact on the current total tax levy. Proposition Cardinals will allow the district to address two distinct needs: Question 1 will ENHANCE safety and facilities with a $14 Million Zero Total Tax Levy Increase Bond and Question 2 will SUPPORT staff with salary and wage increases via a Zero Total Tax Increase Levy Transfer.
If passed on April 2, 2024, Question 1, the Zero Total Tax Levy Increase Bond, will provide for the following:
- Secure entry improvements at Clinton High School
- Address structural concerns, upgrade gym accessibility, renovate existing band room and construct additional band practice rooms at Clinton Middle School
- Construct additional classrooms, upgrade restrooms, and repair parking lots at various buildings in the district
- Upgrade playground equipment, cabinetry/counters, and remediate environmental concerns at various buildings in the district
- Update the cafeteria at Henry Elementary
Acquire property now leased to the district - Resurface track and replace football field turf
Question 2, the Zero Total Tax Increase Levy Transfer, will provide salary and wage increases for employees with the purpose of attracting and retaining quality staff. The funds used for these proposals will have no impact on the district’s overall tax levy, resulting in no changes to the tax rate for stakeholders.
“The Clinton School District is fortunate and appreciative to be part of a community who continues to support students and staff,” says Brian Wishard, Superintendent. “Because of good financial management by the Board of Education, the district is able to place both issues on the April ballot with zero impact to our tax levy. These ballot issues will not only allow us to protect and enhance the investment that our community has made in our facilities through the years, but also allow us to attract and retain quality staff by providing needed salary and wage increases.”
More information regarding Proposition Cardinals is available on the district website. If you should have any questions, please contact Superintendent of Schools, Brian Wishard, 660-885-2237 or at bwishard@clintoncardinals.org.

PINT-SIZED POPSICLES
Preschoolers in Ms. Dawna's class have been learning all about the properties that make objects sink or float, as well as how a liquid can be turned into a solid.
Students used what they had learned to make "popsicles" for their playground animal friends this winter. Last week students enjoyed hanging up their popsicles that were filled with broccoli, carrots, and cranberries.

LOOK WHO'S BACK
Clinton High School was excited to welcome four Class of 2023 graduates back to their stomping grounds!
Parker Cochran (KU student), Olivia Klassen and Ellie Swaters (MU students), and Sophie Schilling (TCU student) recently visited with students in Mrs. Clark's College-Prep English class. They shared their college experiences and words of wisdom with students.
Thank you to CHS Counselor, Stacy Pitts for arranging this experience.

MONEY MASTER MARVELS
Second graders in Mrs. Briggs' class have been learning a lot during their money counting unit.
Students are getting a hands-on experience in counting money and making change in their classroom store. Students earn play money for completing assignments, showing good behavior, and being responsible. They can then spend their money at the "store".

AMI AND LATE START REMINDERS
ALTERNATIVE METHODS OF INSTRUCTION (AMI)
DESE (Department of Elementary and Secondary Education) allows school districts to implement Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) plans on days that school is not able to be in session due to inclement weather. When school districts implement their AMI plan, the school hours lost due to closure do not have to be made up. For the remainder of the year, the district will most likely implement its AMI plans on days that school must be closed due to inclement weather. Below are the plans for each building:
CECC-Google Classroom or learning packets. Teachers will communicate expectations with parents.
Henry-Learning packets will be sent home prior to a possible AMI day.
CIS-Learning packets will be sent home prior to a possible AMI day.
CMS-Teachers will communicate with students the expectations or learning packets will be sent home prior to a possible AMI day.
CHS-Google Classroom
CTS-Google Classroom
****Please note that the attendance of each student on an AMI day is based on their completion of assignments from their teachers. Assignments must be submitted the first day school is in session after an AMI day.****
2-HOUR LATE START INFORMATION
Please be aware that if the district chooses to have a late start due to weather conditions, all buildings will start 2 hours later than normal. Students riding the bus to school would be picked up 2 hours later than normal as well. Breakfast will not be served.
The following would be the start times for each building for a late start:
CHS/CTS-9:45 (doors open at 9:15)
CMS-9:45 (doors open at 9:25)
CIS-10:05 (doors open at 9:30)
Henry Elementary-10:10 (doors open at 9:30)

EMPLOYEE RECOGNITION PROGRAM
The Cardinal Compliment program is a way for you to salute any Clinton School District employee who goes above and beyond what is expected. Whether you're a parent impressed with that special touch your child's teacher added to a moment, a coworker who thinks their colleague doesn't hear often enough about the great job they are doing, or a community member who witnesses a staff member’s commitment to kids - you can send a Cardinal Compliment!
Supervisors, including the superintendent, will see your submission. The employee will receive a certificate of gratitude and a token of appreciation that lets everyone know he or she was given a Cardinal Compliment.
Every month, Cardinal Compliment recipients will be listed on the district website and posted on the district Facebook page to let others know the names of the district's difference makers!
