Updates for Hillcrest School - Friday, September 8th, 2017

What a great beginning...

Thank you for the smiling faces and enthusiasm for learning. We had great attendance at Open House and on the first day. Teachers have heard positive feedback from so many of you.

Thank you for following traffic patterns for drop off and pick up. Our students have been safe as they are entering and leaving our care.

Thank you for your participation in listening conferences. Your insight as your child's first teachers helps us set them all up for success.

Thank you for all you do to support your child's learning and all you do to support our Hillcrest staff!

Information from Hillcrest's Cub Scouts Pack One

Pack One Cub Scout Registration and First Pack Meeting
For New and Returning Scouts
Tuesday September 19th at 6:00PM in the Hillcrest Gym

Make friends. Catch fish. Earn badges. Climb rocks. Take hikes. Visit museums. Launch rockets. Race cars. Roast marshmallows. Take pictures. Help people. Discover trails. Play sports. Learn games. Build character. Gain confidence. Hit targets. Laugh loud. Grow better. Camp out. Work together. Have fun. Adventure is waiting.

I’d like to welcome all our Hillcrest Cub Scouts back to Pack One for the 2017-18 year! I hope you had a great summer. The Pack would also like to invite all new families interested in Cub Scouts to join us for our first Pack Meeting of the year on Tuesday, September 19th at 6:30 in the Hillcrest Gym. This is an opportunity to see what we do, meet our leadership team and ask questions about our program. We’ll also have forms available that evening, too, if you want to register your scout at the same time.
Our scouts will help introduce Pack One to student guests with some games and activities. This way new and returning parents are free to ask questions, meet our pack and submit forms and fees.

Grades 1 – 5 are eligible to join the pack. But if you have an interested kindergartner, please come out to meet us for next year.

Pack One has den meetings the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month, at 6:30PM in the Hillcrest gym. On the 3rd Tuesday we have a pack meeting, where all the dens come together for an activity or event. Individual dens may plan some alternative or additional dates for specific outings or activities. Some of our pack meetings may also need date and time flexibility for certain events, too. Pack and den leaders will always coordinate those with our scout families well ahead of time to make sure everybody can participate.

If you have any questions about the event, registration details or Pack One in general, please feel free to email Joe Pelej, pack leader at pack1hillcrest@gmail.com or call 262-720-8493. Go Pack One!

5th Grade Run

The Waukesha Optimists Club is again sponsoring a great "try it" Cross Country run for 5th graders, being held on October 11, 2017. Practices will start soon and information will come home with 5th graders next week.

School Lunches

Just a reminder, your can log on to your child's Infinite Campus account to add money to your child's lunch account. If families need assistance in paying for lunches, please contact the office and we can direct you to financial support. Free and reduced lunch applications need to be completed every year. Please see the attached communication from the School District of Waukesha Business Office regarding negative balances on lunch accounts. Letter is linked HERE. Policy is linked HERE.

The Pledge is Still Here!

The Pledge of Allegiance will still be an important part of our student day at Hillcrest. Mrs. Lincicum is working to put together a schedule for 5th grade volunteers to lead the pledge for classrooms. A few students and parents have been asking so we just wanted to get the word out!

Looking for strategies to grow your parenting expertise? Parenting with a Purpose is being offered at Rose Glen elementary school by our school counselor, Heidi Edwards. More information can be found in this FLYER.

Junior Northstar basketball tryouts will be taking place on Sunday September 10th at Waukesha North High School. For information and to register go to www.northstarnationbasketball.com.

Waukesha West Cheer Squad is holding Football Cheer Clinic. Interested? More information can be found in this FLYER.

Parking on the Grass

Please take care when parking in the grass during family events. There are a couple soft spots in the areas surrounding the parking lot. We know, when many families are visiting the school at the same time, parking is limited and parking in the grass becomes necessary. Take a moment to check the grass before you park in it to make sure it hasn't become muddy from heavy rains.

Hillcrest Elementary School

We take pride in our history, inclusive community and collective sense of wonder!
