Mountain View Elementary Newsletter

August 2023

Welcome to Mountain View From Mrs. Dolphin

Hello Mountain View families!

I am looking forward to a great school year! The first day of school for students is Tuesday, August 15th.

I will send a digital newsletter each month with updates about our school. This will be a great place to check for information you may want to know about what's happening at Mountain View Elementary. Your child's teacher will also communicate what is happening in their classrooms.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to us with any questions you have, or to check in.

See you soon!

School Transportation

It is vital for the office to know how your child will be getting home from school each day. Please take a moment to review the Mountain View Elementary bus routes and complete the survey below.
First Day Transportation Survey

Please complete this survey to let us know how your child is getting home on the first day of school.

Parent Drop Off & Pick Up

Parent drop-off begins at 8:20 AM. School staff will come out to the parking lot to meet your child. Please follow the flow of traffic as you come through the parking lot and wait for an adult to assist your child before letting them out of the car during drop-off. Kindergarten parents may walk their child in on the first day of school.

Parent pick-up begins at 3:15 PM. Please have grace and patience with us and your child as we adjust to the pick-up routine during the first week of school. We will get your child out to you as quickly as we are able.

Please take a moment to check out our parent pick-up and drop-off maps below.

Breakfast & Lunch

Breakfast and lunch are available for purchase each day at school. Please take a moment to fill out a free and reduced lunch application. These applications are essential to ensure all students have access to meals and are tied to our school's funding. The more forms we have, the better!

Seesaw

Seesaw is our schoolwide communication platform. By downloading Seesaw and joining your child's class you are opening up a new, efficient avenue to communicate with your child's teacher and school. If you already had Seesaw last year, you shouldn't need to update a thing! If you are new to our school, keep your eyes peeled for more information coming home with your child.

Volunteers & Visitors

We hope that you can take the time to come visit our school. Visitors and volunteers are welcome. If you would like to visit our school please complete the following steps:

1. Complete a KPBSD Background check. This is required for all volunteers and visitors and must be renewed every school year.

2. Check with your child's teacher for volunteer and visiting opportunities.

3. Check in at the office and sign in when you arrive. All entrances are locked for the safety and security of our campus. We are working on updating to a buzz-in system for visitors, but for the time being, please call (907)283-8600 to be admitted into the building.

A Little Bit of Literacy

The state of Alaska adopted the Alaska Reads Act last year. Here at Mountain View Elementary, we are excited to continue our work in helping all children become strong readers. Literacy instruction is a top priority at Mountain View Elementary. Stay tuned for more information about what Literacy looks like at Mountain View, and helpful hints for guiding your child at home.
