Just Like Me! - Author Visit with 3rd Graders

On Monday, May 13th, Maple Dale welcomed author Anne Rugari. Anne is a former Maple Dale parent and has authored a book, Just Like Me about her daughter Gina.

Anne spoke to third grade students about what Krabbe disease is and how grateful her daughter Gina was when other children treated her with kindness, empathy and compassion. She showed many photos to the students of Ginaa when she was a student at Maple Dale!

Ms. Rugari donated a special signed copy of her book to the Maple Dale library.

Way to go, 4th Grade ALA!

Sparked by MLK Jr's Dream, fourth grade advanced language arts students spent the 2nd semester researching a real world problem that they would love to see solved. Each compiled their research into an a multigenre magazine informing others about the problem and ways to help. Lastly, students responsible for publishing SHS newsletter came to Mrs. Daley's class to share their journalism expertise. As a result, The Leaf has published our writings for all to read: https://shsleaf.org/40303/showcase/fourth-graders-write/ In addition, this is a video snippet of their visit to Maple Dale https://shsleaf.org/40270/showcase/the-leaf-teaches/ Not only have we read a ton of nonfiction and written about what we learned, the bigger hope is that our young researchers feel inspired to put their Passion into Action to make a change.
