Talk Like A Pirate Day

We will celebrate National Talk Like A Pirate Day on Wednesday, September 19. We are encouraging students and staff to dress up in their best school-appropriate pirate attire and try on some fun pirate phrases. "Seas the Day" to transform your classroom and lesson using our pirate theme. We can't wait to see what you come up with!

Here are some ideas to get you started:

Reading PLCs

This Thursday we will be working in Reading PLCs. We will meet in our new conference room in the cafeteria. Don't forget to bring you reading work samples from students.

Positive Phone Calls Day

We will be making positive phone calls home next Thursday, September 20. If you have a student that deserves some special recognition and positive reinforcement, add the student's name to the log and we will call students down to call parents!

From Your Captain

Since sending home progress reports, we have had a few calls from concerned parents. Please make sure you have reviewed the district grading policy, especially in reference to the number of daily/tests grades for each six weeks and how you should respond to failing test grades and report card grades. The grading policy is attached below.

Conscious Discipline

Our commitment for this week is: My job is to keep the school safe. Your job is to help keep it that way.

Please reinforce your safe keeper rituals and use of this language. When asked, every student should be able to say their job at school is to keep it safe. When students are acting up, it's easy to correct by asking, "Are you keeping the school safe? Are you doing your job?"

Hero Night

We will be celebrating our community heroes (present/former military, fire, police, rescue) on Tuesday, October 16 at our next parent engagement event.

Each grade level and/or team will need to plan 1-2 learning activities in either reading, math, or science with a "hero" theme. Document your plans on here:

Please have your grade level plans submitted by Friday, September 21 so we can get purchases done. If you are not sure about your ideas, come talk to Mrs. Helton. We would love to give out some learning activities to families, so be creative! Oriental Trading is a great place to start.

**If you have ideas on how to incorporate community heroes into our event, please let Mrs. Helton know! Maybe you know a fireman, policeman, veteran, or other hero that would like to share information with our families.

GT Nominations

The window is open for GT nominations! You can access the nomination forms here:

There are forms in both Spanish and English. We have a LOT of high achieving students that we need to seriously consider for GT this year. Let's get those nominations rolling!

Sign up now for September Makerspace! This month's lesson is well aligned to your properties of matter TEKS for science. Students will explore the properties of play dough and the properties of a "PIrate Cruncher" sea monster that they will create. Here is the link to check out the lessons:

While Mrs. Helton won't be available to do this Makerspace project on "Talk Like A Pirate" Day, you are still welcome to check out the cart that day and do it on your own! The directions and materials are all ready to go.

New Absence Reporting Procedures

Please review new district guidelines for reporting absences.

The big change is that you will no longer report any type of absences in Eduphoria. All absences will be reported through TEAMS only.

You will still be required to put personal business in at least 3 days prior, and substitutes (if needed) are required to be pre-arranged. TEAMS will not release the job to be subbed until it is first approved by Mrs. Logan, so let her know ahead of time that you are putting personal business requests in TEAMS.
