Weekly Family Update # 21

January 10, 2021

Principal's Message

Hello Falcons Families,

I hope you all have had a wonderful week back. To prepare for our targeted reopening date, there is a lot of important information to help families and students included in this newsletter. Please read through this information carefully. While this information should answer many of the questions that families have, there are still issues we are working on as we continue the conversation on how to best reopen our school. I will continue to push out more information each week.

Please continue to safe and mindful of your health.

Thanks for all you do for our Oak Valley Community! Go Falcons!

Beaming with Falcon Pride,

Mr. Young

Chromebook Distribution For Students Returning to Campus

For those students who will be returning to on-campus learning that are still in need of a Chromebook, we will be checking out and distributing devices via the library on the first day we return to campus. Students will come to the library with their class to check out a device. Families must complete and sign the PUSD Chromebook Check-Out Agreement form.

Students will need to turn in these forms at the library in exchange for a Chromebook.

The form can be accessed below and can also be found on the PUSD website HERE.

Asynchronous Friday Update

Here are are some thoughts as we have completed our first Asynchronous Friday. Please note that the expectations for students on this day are a work in progress. Our staff will be checking in with students this week to adjust and evaluate the expectations. All student work is due by 2:15pm on this day in order for students to earn attendance for the day. This is a requirement we must follow.

Asynchronous Fridays are a day for students to work independently and for teachers to have time to prep, grade and collaborate as seen in the details presented at the last Board Meeting (bulleted below) as well as work with students needing support. This is still a work in progress and staff will continue the conversation to adjust as we move forward.

For Students:

· Review and preview work from the week to deepen learning

· Review feedback and complete corrections

· Independent learning time

· Reduce screen time

· Additional support time with peers and staff

For Teachers:

· Provide timely feedback to students; including grades

· Review assessments and plan based on student needs

· Complete required COVID attendance tracking

· Collaboration

· Professional learning

· Office hours to provide support to individual student

New Weekly Bell Schedule and Monthly Calendar

Don't forget. We started our new Weekly Schedule last week. This schedule should be much simpler and easier to follow for students.

Please see the attached weekly bell schedule HERE and below.

There is also a new monthly calendar attached HERE and below. We will follow this same weekly schedule pattern for the reminder of the year, unless the School Board changes our current school model, with the exception of a few weeks where we have to adjust for holidays. Please look at both of these documents closely.

Don't forget, students will start on Monday mornings in their 1st period class at 8:30am.
