Rotary Relay for LAPS
If you want to make a difference, join the Rotary Club of Mount Pleasant to support the Lowcountry Aquatic Project Swimming (LAPS). LAPS is a swimming initiative targeted at teaching life-saving swim skills to all K-1st grade children in the Charleston area by building a community of swimmers who can enjoy the environment in which they live. LAPS helps underprivileged children in diverse communities by providing free transportation, instruction, and swim aids for learn-to-swim programs.
Participate in this friendly competition by creating a relay swim team. The goal? Swim as far as you can in one hour. You will be competing over the summer against other local swimmers for coveted Rotary Relay for LAPS Cup. Awards are given for the following categories: (1) longest distance completed by male team, (2) longest distance completed by a female team, and (3) longest distance completed by a mixed (male and female) relay team in their attempts. For fun, an additional BFR (Big Fun Relay) award is given for the attempt made with the most number of swimmers. Young and not-so-young swimmers are encouraged to participate.
How do you do this?
1. Spread the word about the challenge.
2. Organize a team
3. Sign up and get ready to swim. You can schedule your relay attempt by going to the Team Signup linked below. You choose the date, time and pool for your attempt; we will schedule a Rotarian to come to your pool at your chosen time, certify your results and collect your entry fees. All attempts must be completed between June 1 and July 14, 2016. Results will be posted as they come in here:http://www.mprotary.org/relay-for-laps/.
Each swimmer on your team must pay $10 for each attempt. You can schedule and complete as many attempts as you like before July 14, 2016, so long as each swimmer pays his or her $10 per attempt. There is no limit on the number of attempts or the number of teams for which individual swimmers may compete and teams are encouraged to make several attempts. Attached you will find an event flyer, and the rules. Please feel free to make copies and pass them out to your fellow swimmers. The awards will be presented on the Awards day of the Charleston City Meet.
