The Scientific Revolution
Carey c.2nd
What was the change????
The change was using science to interpret how the universe works opposed to the holy text and common sense.During that time people were so into the church and already had a perception of how things work. They as a church basically didn't want any interference in their beliefs.
Who were the people associated with the change????
Johannes kepler
Johannes Kepler proved that the heliocentric model of the universe was in fact true.
While in the midst of his observations, Kepler also proposed three laws of planetary motion.
- planets move in elliptical motions around the sun
- planets move more rapidly as their orbits approach the sun
- the time it takes a planet to orbit the sun is proportional to its distance from the sun
- the picture above depicts Kepler's artwork of the solar system.
Galileo Galiei
- Galileo was an Italian math professor who made a big impact on what we know today about nature. He also plays a big part on how gravity works. He was also a certified scientist who also studied the solar system. But the church didn't want to believe any of Galileo's findings. So they put him on house arrest until his death.
- The picture above is a image of Galileo's thermometer.
Nicolaus copernicus
- Copernicus was a scientist well known for doubting the geocentric model. He thought that planets didn't move around the earth but the sun. This was the first new model of the universe in 2000 years.Even though Copernicus's work was a breakthrough, religious leaders of the catholic church were angered by it.
- The picture above is Copernicus's drawing of the heliocentric model.
How did the change impact society at the time????
The change impacted society kinda badly. It did so because, people already had a perception as to how the world was made.People back then were closes to religion and used religion to answer a lot of their mysteries. The scientific revolution stated different ways of how earth was made.
How is that change evidenced in today's modern society????
The change is evident today because, now we know a lot more of nature and astronomy.Having those scientists back then, were the basis of today's knowledge of science. Because of that,we as people know a lot more of nature.
