Family Engagement Event: Digital Citizenship & Cyberbullying
Digital Citizenship and Cyberbullying
Wednesday, December 1, 2021
Digital citizenship is an important part of the Avon culture and student learning across the district. This learning includes the safe and responsible use of technology, the internet, and digital devices both in and out of school. Join us to learn more about digital citizenship, cyberbullying, and more with members of the staff from across the district. This family engagement event will take place in the high school cafeteria from 6:30-7:30 PM on Wednesday, December 1st. Refreshments will be provided and activities will be available for school-age children during the session, in collaboration with the school's recreational program. Please register by Monday, November 29th.
COVID Testing
As a result of the NYS Department of Health mandate that schools offer weekly Diagnostic testing for students, we have worked with LCDOH to improve access to local testing without the drive to Mt. Morris. We will be offering testing services through the school in the coming weeks.
Diagnostic Testing is response testing in the event someone displays symptoms or is identified as a close contact. It is sometimes simply referred to as Response Testing.
If you or your child would like a simple diagnostic COVID test, please send an email to covid.testing@avoncsd.org. You will then receive a google form to choose a time for your child to be tested along with the consent form and intake form that will need to be completed prior to the test. If you have any questions please contact Michelle Burke at mburke@avoncsd.org
This is completely voluntary. It is simply an option for families in addition to working with their primary care providers or other community agencies that may offer testing.
UPK-4 Information
Parent/Teacher Conference (Grades UPK through grade 4): The student time schedule will be altered once again next Tuesday, November 30, 2021 to accommodate for parent conferencing. The dismissal for elementary school students will occur at 12:45 PM. There will be lunches served. Please remember that if you are going to need to change transportation arrangements, you will need to complete and submit the request on an ACS Transportation Change Request Form. The forms can be found on-line at www.avoncsd.org or in our main office. The link below contains a list of potential questions you can ask your child’s teacher about their growth thus far.

Winter Playground: The students will continue to have the opportunity to go out to the playground after lunch each day. During the next few months, our level of concern regarding student dress and winter apparel is raised. Please be mindful of this as the students head out each morning to go to school. The playground time for students can vary each day depending on the temperatures, but they are typically outside for at least 15-20 minutes. If you have any questions regarding this, or need any assistance with winter gear, please don’t hesitate to give us a call here at school.
5-8 Information
Parent/Teacher Conference (Grades 5 and 6): The second parent/teacher day for grades 5 and 6 will be held on Tuesday, November 30th. Grade level teachers will be contacting parents about the need for a parent/teacher conference. If you do not receive a communication from your child’s fifth or sixth grade teacher about a parent/teacher conference, please contact your child’s reading teacher.
After School Help/Sports Study Hall (Grades 7 and 8): If your child stays after school to receive assistance from a particular teacher, staff will be available (most days) to work with students in their classrooms from 2:25 pm until 3:05 pm. If your child does not stay after school to work with a teacher, but has an extra-curricular activity that begins at 3:15 pm, your child needs to report to the cafeteria until dismissal at 3:05 pm. Mrs. Rebecca Rio, the after school monitor, will be there to supervise students.
Lost and Found (Grades 5-8): In the 7/8 wing, there is a “Lost and Found” table. Over the past three months of school, the amount of items on this table has grown. There are water bottles, lunch bags, sweatshirts, shorts and shirts, jackets, eye glasses, books, etc. If your child is missing an item, please encourage him/her to visit this table. Daily morning announcements at school will be made as well to remind students to look at this table for missing personal items.
9-12 Information
Academic Supports: Teachers are available to support students from 2:25-3:05 PM. Additionally, check out the Paper Tutoring Service described below.

SchoolTool Parent Portal
SchoolTool: In order to access your child’s progress reports and report cards, you will need to have a parent/ guardian portal account in the district’s school management system, SchoolTool. A parent/guardian portal access guide to SchoolTool is posted below to assist you in establishing your parent/guardian portal account. Once you have a parent/guardian portal account, you will have access to not only your child’s grades, but also to his/her attendance, daily schedule, behavioral reports, and state assessment scores. If you encounter any difficulties acquiring or accessing your parent/guardian portal account in SchoolTool, please feel free to contact Jim Ellis, the ACS Technology Coordinator, at jimellis@avoncsd.org.

Veterans Day Assemblies
On Veterans Day, we hosted Dr. Todd Camenisch, professor and chair of the Wegmans School of Pharmacy at SJFC and a former U.S. Navy Corpsman, and Marine Field Medic both active and reserve. Dr. Camenish reflected on his experiences and talked about the importance of service. Students asked insightful questions during the assemblies to further their knowledge.
