a note from your director

And the weeks just keep flying by!! We want to acknowledge the success of our concert bands last week! The official UIL Concert and Sightreading Evaluation was held on Tuesday and Wednesday. This is the first year that Johnson High School bands have been eligible to earn the UIL Sweepstakes Trophy! This is done by earning a superior rating at UIL Marching, a superior rating in UIL Concert and a superior rating in UIL Sightreading. Year one of Johnson being opened was cut short due to COVID and there was no Concert or Sightreading portion. Year two was partial virtual or in person attendance and Johnson did not attend the Marching UIL portion. This year, all three portions were attended for the very first time! Super proud to announce that each of the three bands (Wind Ensemble, Wind Symphony and Symphonic Winds) earned a 1,1,1 in Concert and a 1,1,1 in Sightreading. It was a clean sweep from every band sent. There we only two schools that earned a clean sweep from every judge for every band and those two schools were Johnson and Dripping Springs. Again, congratulations to all three of our bands for earning a Sweepstakes!! The standard and tradition have now begun and may they continue for many years to come.

Exciting news for this week! Our Varsity Winter Guard will be traveling to Dayton, Ohio, to compete in the WGI World Championships! They have had an awesome season so far this year and have worked incredibly hard. Their hard work and dedication have paid off with an outstanding record. Currently they are BIT (Best In Texas) with their recent Gold Medal performance in the TCGC State Championships and are working towards being BIA with this coming weeks competition in Dayton Ohio!! Make sure you are wishing them luck and sending them all of the good vibes we can as they once again make history for Johnson High School!

Audition music for next years band placements is ready and will be distributed on Monday to all of this years 8-11 grade students. Make sure that you start practicing immediately as this upcoming audition will determine your band placement for next year. This does NOT include percussionist! All percussion will be placed in the appropriate Drumline class for the fall, then have your band placement audition towards the end of the fall semester. All auditions will be recorded and are due by the date listed on the email you will receive this week containing the link and date to submit your videos!

Our EXCITING, BIG ANNOUNCEMENT, that you have been waiting for is coming soon!! We know we have been teasing the students and parents with this exciting news and the time is almost here!!! The staff can’t wait to share, it is sooooooo awesome!!! COMING SOON!!!!

In two weeks we will start our Spring Fundraiser! It is going to be the same format of the fundraiser we did this fall, and we need everyone to be involved!! We need to push hard and make this the best fundraiser we have had. Ever!!

Students, if you are interested in being an SLT for next year, that information and paperwork is coming soon! Be on the look out and be ready to help make next years “Student Leadership Team” awesome!! You are the key to our success!

Let’s have a great week and as always: It’s A Great Day To Be A Jaguar!
