BHMS EBlast
August 24, 2018
Dear BHMS Families,
Broomfield Heights is the best! BHMS parents are engaged and supportive and you make our school the best it can be! Please plan to join us for Back to School Night on Thursday evening to hear and understand more about your student’s experience at our school.
We work together to strengthen our partnership. The best tip I can share to help you promote success as we progress through the beginning of the school year is to continue to be involved and engage with your kids:
· Talk with them about their day and THEIR LEARNING!
· Guide them to feel pride in their accomplishments! Focus on their tenacity, hard work. Making a difference.
· Reach out to, listen to, and interact with teachers!
· Strive to reinforce what we have to offer at BHMS and integrate what we do here with your precious family-time!
Sticking with this theme, we have our Parent Engagement Network meeting coming up for your calendar. Please join us Thursday, September 6th at 8:40 am.
Thank you for all of your support and your welcoming words as we begin our year at BHMS! We are part of a wonderful community, and we look forward to a great year!

2019 Great Words, Great Works Book List
Each year, the Scripps National Spelling Bee publishes its School Spelling Bee Study List, a list of 450 words to help students prepare for a school-level spelling bee. These 450 words come from a list of books carefully selected by the Bee’s editorial team for their engaging and age-appropriate content, as well as their rich vocabulary. That list of books is called the Great Words, Great Works list.

Attention TAG Parents! Are you interested in attending a conference?
Parent Institute registration is open!
On Monday evening, October 22, 2018, please join us for the Parent Institute at our 41st Annual CAGT Conference: "Putting the Pieces Together: Understanding Giftedness". This is a time for parents, guardians and educators interested in gifted children to come together to hear national and local experts share their knowledge and answer some of your questions. For more information please click here.ATTENDANCE
The attendance office needs to be notified of ALL absences. If we don’t receive an attendance email or phone call, your student will be marked Unexcused for that day. If you need to pick up your student during the school day, we appreciate an early phone call so we can deliver a pass ahead of time. Please report all absences via email at http://bhm.bvsd.org/parents/Pages/Report-Absence.aspx or call 720-561-8402.
A FRIENDLY LUNCH REMINDER
Students may bring a sack lunch or purchase a lunch in the cafeteria. If your student brings a sack lunch, it is the expectation that the lunch comes with the student at the beginning of the school day, and not be delivered in the middle of the day. If your student forgets their sack lunch at home and it gets brought in after school starts, please note that we will not be interrupting classes to deliver those. Your student will need to know to come to the office to pick it up. Again, it is the expectation that there are no lunch deliveries during the school day. Thank you!
WEATHER POLICY
While it's very early in the school year, we want to make sure everyone is aware of our cold weather policy. Our students will be outdoors until the bell rings every day, unless the weather drops below 20 degrees or it's significantly raining/snowing. Only in these instances will we open up the cafeteria and allow students to enter the building before the first bell.
