Boals Anchor
Where our future is anchored in learning!
Boals News
Dear Boals’ Families,
Happy Spring! It is hard to believe that the first day of spring is this weekend. This last semester brings many activities; such as Kindergarten Round-up, STAAR Testing, Field Day, End of the Year parties and other learning celebrations. It is so exciting to watch our students grow and learn.
I am in need of your feedback to help our campus continue to grow and excel. The district has created a survey that will be open now through March 27. The survey is completely anonymous. The grade level with the most survey participation will earn an extra recess. We will have computers set up in the cafeteria and office if you are on campus and would like to complete the survey. Once the survey is completed please stop by the receptionist, Mrs. Jenson and pick up a discount at the UPS store off Eldorado and Tollway. Our way to say we appreciate you.

It was wonderful to see all the families at Spring Creek Barbeque last night. We appreciate your support for Boals.

News from Mrs. Patrick
It is that time of year when the state of Texas administers the STAAR test. Along with that comes the possibility for anxiety in some students. I’d like to share some tips with you to help ease your student(s) nerves.
- Don’t be afraid to talk about the upcoming exams with your student… but only in a positive way. Don’t feed into the doubt or anxiousness the student already may have. When they are expressing their fears to you, they are looking for reassurance from you that they will do well if they put forth their best effort.
- Remind the students that their teachers have been preparing them. They have been taught the material needed to be successful. This exam is only a snapshot of what they have been learning all year.
- This test is to evaluate for several things… strengths of our students, teachers, and schools, along with providing information on how to better educate in areas of weaknesses.
- This is a chance for students to show what they have learned. When this is conveyed to the students, anxiety can decrease.
- Make sure the student gets plenty of sleep, a good breakfast, and minimal disturbances to his/her normal schedule.
- Prepare a healthy breakfast for your child on the morning of the test.
- Have your child arrive at school on time that morning to avoid feeling rushed.
- Send a snack with your student to have during the testing.(Non-messy and quiet snacks are best)
- Do not schedule any medical appointments for your child on test day.
- Please do not plan to eat lunch with your child on test day.
- Finally, send your child to school with a hug and words of encouragement.
- Please note, CELL PHONES are NOT allowed in the classroom during testing. Any cell phones brought to school will be collected and stored in a locked cabinet until after testing.
- Due to test security, no visitors or volunteers are allowed in the building on a test day.
Below, you will find a couple of resources for you to review.
Our students at Boals Elementary are amazing and I am so blessed to work with them each day. I greatly look forward to seeing what lies ahead for their futures. Thank you for sharing them with us.
