Polar Bear (Ursus Maritimus)
Identification
Polar Bears are classified as marine mammals. They have a thick layer of body fat and a water repellant coat that ululates them from the cold weather. Male Polar Bears weigh about 772-1433 lbs. Female Polar Bears weigh about 331-551 lbs. Pregnant female Polar Bears weigh as much as 1102 lbs. Polar Bears have slender bodies, long necks and their coat vary from pure white to yellow to light brown.
Location and Habitat
Polar Bears are found in Canada, US(Alaska), Greenland, Russia, Norway, Artic. The Artic Tundra is the Biome where the Polar Bear is located. The Artic Tundra Winters temperatures don't reach above 20° F and average -20° to -30°F. The Tundra is usually a cold and dry climate. Polar bears live in dens in the shelter of cliffs and rocks.
Role In Ecosystem and Classification
The Polar Bear is a Carnivore. Polar Bears mostly eat seals, artic foxes, fish, rodents and reindeer.

Threats And Solutions
Polar bears are loosing sea ice habitat resulting from climate change. Threats include Polar Bear-Human conflicts, overheating climate, and industrial impacts. WWF is helping Polar Bears by making safer communities, and safer tourism.
