RCMS Community Wellness Expo - Feedback Requested

SGA ANNOUNCEMENT
SGA has officially started! Class Representatives should plan on coming to our meetings on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month. All others are also welcome to join us! Meetings are in the Media Center, start at 3:20 and end at 4:20. Students who need transportation can take the EBB activity bus at 5:15.

OUTDOOR EDUCATION - Grade 6 Families
Roberto Clemente Middle School is excited to share information about the Grade 6 MCPS Outdoor Environmental Education Program, known as “Outdoor Ed." The program provides students with a three-day residential experience focused on field experiences where scientific practices are used to investigate the environment and where components of the MCPS Grade 6 curriculum are learned in a real-world setting. Feel free to reference all the slides from the videos shared here. The 6th grade team of teachers want all students to attend this awesome memorable experience.

We are very excited to be only a couple weeks away from our in-school field trip, Exploring Latin America Day! During this exciting day, all students will participate in engaging activities that highlight traditions and accomplishments from Latin American cultures. This aligns with our current World Studies unit, as well as our celebrating of Hispanic Heritage month.
The cost for the day is $8 and includes all of the materials for the activities, as well as a lunch buffet from Crisp and Juicy. To pay for the event, please access School Funds Online where you will see it already added under your child's name. For help setting up or using your School Funds Online account, please see the linked resources below.
After paying online, please fill in the confirmation code on the permission slip and have your child return it to school. Permission slips were given to your students by their World Studies teacher and are on golden paper. Thank you for helping us celebrate and honor the cultural diversity that makes our school community amazing!

Exploring Latin America Day - October 21, 2022
Our 7th grade in-school field trip is coming up soon! Permission slips for this in-school field trip have been sent home through World Studies teachers. The cost for this day is $8 and can be paid online using the School Cash online payment system. We are requesting all permission slips to be returned by October 14th. Information for 8th Grade Families

Meadow Farms is a catalog fundraiser. Students received packets of information a few weeks ago. These packets are due NO LATER THAN October 14th to Mrs. Blades or Mrs. Presley. These packet orders will be delivered directly to the school and handed out to students. Families also have the option to order online! Students sign up on the website (just name and email and school) and they will earn credit for the prizes that are offered. The online shop closes on December 13th! These online orders will be delivered directly to the person who placed the order.

National Conflict Resolution Day
In observance of National Conflict Resolution Day on October 20, 2022, the Maryland Judiciary’s Mediation and Conflict Resolution Office (MACRO) is seeking entries for the 17th annual Conflict Resolution Day Bookmark Art Contest. The contest is open to all Maryland students in kindergarten through eighth grade.

Grade levels and judging criteria: Art will be judged in three categories: kindergarten through second grade; third through fifth grade; and sixth through eighth grade. Submissions will be judged on artistry, creativity, and message reflecting a conflict resolution or prevention theme, such as peer mediation, talking things out, apologizing, respecting differences, solving problems together, listening, tolerance, diversity and inclusion, peace building, and alternatives to violence.

MATH TEAM
Do you love math? Well then this is for you! We are having a tryout on October 12, 2022, Wednesday after school from 3:15 – to 4:45PM. The tryouts are for any interested 6th, 7th, or 8th grade student who would like to participate on the Clemente Competition team. You will need to bring a calculator and a pencil to room 220 on this day. All students will take a math test to see how sharp your problem solving skills are. Are you up to the challenge? If so, please come to room 220 on October 12th at dismissal. You will need to make arrangements for transportation at 4:45PM. Notification of the 2022-23 RCMS Math team finalists will take place on Monday, October 17, 2022. Practices will begin on Wednesday October 19th, 2022 from 3:10 to 4:45 every week. Please see Mr. Hummel or Ms. Lee if you have any further questions.
Collection for the Homeless
Mrs. Mahon is participating in a Montgomery County Coalition Homeless initiative to collect 30 household items for a family exiting homelessness. More information about what is being collected and a sign-up Genius will be sent soon!
