MCCHS FRIDAY FOCUS

206th EDITION: October 22, 2021

From the Desk of Mr. Benji Winkelman

Wow, time sure does go fast, I cannot believe that we completed our first quarter of school. Students seem to be settling in nicely, especially our new freshman class. I would like to take this opportunity to thank a few groups of students. First, our mentoring program, under the leadership of Mrs. Littner, has done a great job helping our freshmen with their transition to high school. Our mentors have been connecting with our freshman and sophomore classes starting this past summer and will continue to help and support our students throughout the school year. Our mentors are alleviating much of the stress and pressure that is associated with starting a new school, while offering ways to be successful socially and academically. Thank you, Mentors!!

Second, I would like to congratulate and commend our student council. These students put in long hours of planning and organizing an awesome homecoming week, full of great costume theme days, a powderpuff football game, a great pep rally (which the teachers dominated by the way!) and the culminating dance, all without the guidance of an advisor. Amazing job, ladies!

Lastly, our National Honor Society deserves recognition and congratulations. National Honor Society members are expected to uphold Christian values, serving as leaders among their peers and the community at large. NHS students strive to continue their intellectual growth and use their knowledge to enlighten the lives of others. Congratulations to the 22 new members who were inducted last Saturday night. All three of these groups of students are making Marian Central a better place, and we recognize and celebrate all their hard work and dedication!

Parent Teacher Conferences - Parent teacher conferences are this week on Thursday and Friday. A parent-teacher conference is a great opportunity to; share academic progress and growth based on classroom observations, testing data, assessments, portfolios, and assignments. Teachers can also learn from parents to be better informed about students' strengths, needs, behaviors, and learning styles. I hope that all parents can connect to their child's teachers either in person, virtually or through email so that we can work together to improve our students' learning.

Special Thanks to our PTO - I wanted to thank our newly formed PTO, and under the excellent leadership of Jackie Georgiou they were able to assist our student council in making this a very successful homecoming week. Our school events would not be possible without the support of our parents. Please consider supporting our PTO in whatever way you can, we look forward to working with you and appreciate your dedication to Marian Central.

Moving on from Polo season - We would like to inform you that we have decided to move “Sweater” season up a week. On the calendar it was originally scheduled for November 1st, however due to some cooler weather moving in we are going to start on October 25th. What does this mean?? Gentlemen are expected to wear a shirt and tie underneath their school sweater and Ladies are expected to wear a blouse underneath their school sweater. All expectations are found on Page 38 in the student handbook.
