Message from HCS Superintendent
A thriving public education system is the foundation of a healthy community and access to high-quality teaching and learning is every student's right. I understand the transformational power of a great education and have seen the positive results and difference for our students, families, and community. Our mission, vision, and core values ensure this positive change happens for students in HCS.
I am very proud to be starting my 5th year as Superintendent of Henderson County Schools, and I am proud of the 1,130 staff members and 7,477 students who represent our school district. We are Henderson County Schools and we are extraordinary.

High Attendance Day Set for September 20th
Did you know a child’s attendance record is one of the strongest predictors of academic success?
September is Attendance Awareness Month, and Kentucky High Attendance Day has been set for Thursday, Sept. 20th.
Our goal is to have the highest attendance numbers for Kentucky on September 20th. Help Henderson County Schools reach our goal!
Good attendance helps children do well in school and eventually in the workplace. Good attendance matters for school success, starting as early as preschool and throughout elementary school, and helps students stay on the path to academic success. By middle and high school, poor attendance is a leading indicator of dropout. Absences represent lost opportunities to learn in the classroom.
School attendance is a family and a student responsibility. Parents and guardians can help by instilling the habit of going to school every day and by staying engaged in their child’s education from kindergarten all the way through graduation.

2018-19 Volunteer Information
Henderson County Schools is committed to ensuring that we maintain a safe learning environment for our students, staff, and community. Kentucky statute (KRS 17.160) requires that Henderson County Schools perform a criminal background check (Youth Leader Request ) on all individuals who request to serve as a volunteer in our schools. New this year, all volunteers must also complete the Child Abuse/Neglect (CAN) check.
This includes anyone who assists students in or out of the classroom, works in close proximity to students, chaperones or supervises students during school activities or events (including field trips), or has access to classified or personal information.
Volunteers must complete the Youth Leader Request Form, return the form to school or Cindy Williams, Henderson County Board of Education, along with cash, cashier check or money order in the amount of $10.00 made payable to Henderson County Schools.
Volunteers must complete the Child Abuse/Neglect (CAN) check. The applicant must enclose a check or money order for $10.00 made payable to “Kentucky State Treasurer” along with a completed application for processing or the application will not be processed. The address to submit the CAN Check is listed on the form.
In compliance with 922 KAR 1:470 and the Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS) a report will be issued stating that the applicant has no findings of substantiated child abuse or neglect.
The Youth Leader Request Form and CAN Check forms can be found on our district website at www.henderson.kyschools.us under Resources/Volunteers.
Anyone visiting Henderson County Schools must bring identification and sign in at the main office of each school/building. Parents/Guardians/Community members visiting to eat lunch/drop off items/attend programs or events are not required to complete the Youth Leader Request or the CAN Check but must sign in as a visitor.
We believe that the involvement of volunteers is a vital component of our success and we do not want the costs associated with the background checks to be a limiting or restrictive factor. For that reason, if you plan to be a regular volunteer and assistance is needed with the cost, please contact the school for financial assistance.
