Welcome! This is my second year teaching at Ridgewood High School. I have a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and a background in Human Resource Management. I enjoyed my first year of teaching and glad to be back! I am also the FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) Adviser and Class Sponsor for the Class of 2019. SUPPORT SERVICES FOR WEB DESIGN 2

Students who are struggling with any concept may see me to arrange for a tutoring session before or after school.
Additionally, students are encouraged to message through Canvas or e-mail to obtain feedback or ask questions as these sites are monitored continually.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Site Development teaches you essential Web page development skills. You will learn to create sites using Hypertext Markup Language version 5 (HTML5) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). You will learn to write code manually, as well as use graphical user interface (GUI) authoring tools. You will also work with images, create hyperlinks, and add tables, forms, video and audio to your Web pages. Once certified, you have proven that you have foundational knowledge to develop basic Web sites. This certification is ideal for students and professionals who want a career in Web site design or marketing. Topics Include:

  • Fundamental Web design with HTML5, CSS and JavaScript

  • Hyperlinks, Web forms and tables

  • Site design for mobile devices

  • Image, audio and video editing

  • Search Engine Optimization and Internet Marketing

  • Content formatting with style sheets

GRADING POLICY

Classwork/Assessments (80%) - Classwork will consist of textbook and teacher generated assignments that will demonstrate the student's comprehension of the material. Assessments will consist of individual/group projects, presentations and written tests/quizzes meant to demonstrate knowledge of concepts and/or skills learned.

Participation/Work Ethic (20%) - Daily participation will involve student/teacher evaluation and will include in-class/online discussions and completing journal assignments.

Notebook Requirement:
Students must maintain a binder that contains written or typed notes, all projects, handouts and other items that the teacher assigns. This will be checked periodically and graded for progress reports and report cards. Students may use Evernote to organize notes and will be used during student led conferences.

Industry Certification & District Final:
Students will be required to take a District Final and will have an opportunity to take the Industry Certification.

MATERIALS AND COURSE RESOURCES

Students should have the following for this class:
  1. One (1"inch) binder and looseleaf (filler paper) - for taking notes and documenting class activities and practice (Students may choose to keep electronic notes through Evernote but will still require a binder)
  2. One folder - to keep assessments, feedback, and reflections on learning
  3. Pens/pencils
  4. Headphones/Ear Buds - these will be used in class to listen to videos, etc.

CLASSROOM PROCEDURES

Beginning of Class:
Get all necessary materials. Students need to be in their seats when the bell rings completing the Bell Work.
  • All work must contain First and Last Name, Date, and Class Period.

  • All work MUST be turned in to the bin labeled with the student’s class period. The teacher is NOT responsible for work put on the teacher’s desk, or anywhere else in the room.


During Class:
Students are expected to remain in their seats during direct instruction.
Students needing help during individual or group work should look at materials and resources or ask group members before asking the teacher.
All students are expected to focus on instruction and participate fully in class activities. Students who have finished their work are expected to help others or complete additional tasks to practice for mastery of learning goals.

End of Class:
Students will not pack up or put materials away before the last 5 minutes of class unless directed by the teacher. Students will contribute to the cleanliness or orderliness of the room.

Bathroom breaks:
Students are encouraged to plan accordingly for restroom breaks as class time is essential to practicing for mastery of learning goals.
Students will be permitted to use the restroom during non-direct instructional times only. Students will be expected to sign out and in on the hall pass log. Abusing this privilege can directly impact the student's ability to master the learning goals and may result in the removal of this privilege or the use of an escort to the restroom.

ADDITIONAL POLICIES

Late Assignments:
Assignments are due at the beginning of class. Students will be recommended for Academic Lunch Detention in order to submit late assignments. These assignments will be accepted within 10 days after the due date for a maximum credit of 50%. Work that is turned in more than 10 days late will receive a zero.


Makeup Work:

Students will be allowed to makeup work according to district policy. All work and class activities will be communicated through weekly newsletters on Canvas. Students are responsible for checking this resource to see what was missed and asking any questions about the assignment. Extra credit is given periodically.


Tardy Policy:
Tardies are not acceptable as they disrupt learning. All students must be in the classroom when the bell finishes ringing. Students who are not in class by the time the bell finishes ringing should be sent to the Tardy Table for a pass. A student who is later than five minutes to class is no longer considered tardy, but skipping, unless an excused admit is provided. Students will be subjected to classroom and school-wide disciplinary action as a result of tardiness.


Seating Assignments:

Seats will be assigned and can be changed at any time. Seating is based on effective grouping and may change according to activity. Students should be in their assigned seats at all times.

Electronic Devices:

Electronic devices, including and not limited to headphones, must be turned off and out of sight during class, except when approved for educational purposes. If at any time these devices are seen or heard outside of approved times, you will be subject to a lunch detention and/or a referral may be issued, depending on the number of violations.

Academic Honesty:

Any type of academic dishonesty is unacceptable. Academic dishonesty includes giving or receiving answers on any type of assignment (homework, essay, quiz, test, etc.), plagiarism, and providing information about assessments to other students. Academic dishonesty will result in a zero on the assignment, and a disciplinary referral. In addition, the instructor will write negative recommendations for organizations such as the National Honor Society and Student Government, for anyone who fails to display academic integrity.


Food and Drink:
Food and drink are not permitted in the classroom.

  • Be present, on time, and have all materials.
  • Show respect to your peers and instructor.
  • Do all assigned readings and other assignments.
  • Participate in class.
  • Have a positive attitude.
  • Follow all established school and district rules.
  • Failure to adhere to these rules will result in consequences.

COURSE OUTLINE - ASSIGNMENT DESCRIPTIONS

Learn It Online (LIO): Learn It Online is a series of online exercises that test students’ knowledge of chapter content and key terms.

Apply Your Knowledge (AYK): Apply Your Knowledge is an assignment that helps students reinforce their skills and apply the concepts learned in a chapter.

Extend Your Knowledge (EYK): Extend Your Knowledge is an assignment that challenges students to extend the skills learned in a chapter and to experiment with new skills. Students may need to use the Help feature to complete the assignment.

Make It Right (MIR): Make It Right is an assignment that asks students to analyze a document and correct all errors and/or improve the document’s design.

Cases and Places (CP): Cases and Places is a series of assignments in which students apply creative thinking and problem-solving skills to design and implement solutions.

In the Lab (Lab): In the Lab is a series of assignments that ask students to design and/or format a document using the guidelines, concepts, and skills presented in a chapter. The labs are listed in order of increasing difficulty.


1st Semester - Students will focus CTE Benchmarks and FL Standards associated with CIW Internet Based Associate.


2nd Semester - Students will focus CTE Benchmarks and FL Standards associated with Microsoft 2010.


TEACHING METHODS

1. Lectures / Demonstrations – will be used to discuss objectives of each component and to illustrate methods of creating various projects.

2. Projects / Labs – will be the most important part of the study. It is through these methods that students will learn by doing the tasks and have a chance to apply their knowledge to individual projects.

3. Learn It Online – using the textbook website, students will review terms and concepts relating to the material covered.

4. Assessments – along with the projects and labs, students will be assessed using quizzes, tests, and other special assignment
