Week in Review
October 9, 2013
Good morning everyone,
I hope each of you had a good fall break and are enjoying this cooler weather. We hosted a visitor from the School of Nursing's accreditation team yesterday, who was very impressed with the activity in the building. It is good to hear external people quickly reach the conclusion that our building serves as a hub for students on this campus.
Just before fall break, SAALCK hosted a demo of Ex Libris' ILS product, Alma. SAALCK is trying to maneuver KYVL into negotiating a state contract for the state's academic libraries without putting together a bid with all of the other types of libraries in the state, most of whom have very different needs in an ILS than academic libraries. Since that demo, we have been working with the Ex Libris people to get further information on specific issues. The SAALCK Directors will be discussing next steps and our institutional endorsements of moving forward with Alma next week. Our team was very impressed with the product - we will have to see where this goes.
In preparation for both a new ILS and for the importing of thousands of eBooks records, Cris, Leslie and Aleeah have been working on a contract for a cleanup service of our catalog database. Our EBL set up paperwork has also been submitted, so we are moving closer to our new purchasing mechanism for eBooks. We will be pilot testing the eBook service with the College of Business. Thanks to all involved as we keep this new component of our Access Now service moving forward.
Also, thanks once again to everyone involved with the compilation of Cap Assets data and figures.
Have a great week.
