Hawk Squawk Newsletter 3/16/23
Principal's Message
Dear Hallinan Families,
We've been talking a lot about our character trait COOPERATION this month! And, I'm excited to highlight some opportunities for you to cooperate too!
First up, make sure your voice is heard by completing the YouthTruth survey by Friday, 3/24. A huge hug of gratitude to the families - 23 of you! - that have already completed the survey! For anyone that hasn't completed the survey, it's anonymous, there's still time and your opinion and comments are very important to me. I will be reviewing the survey results with my SAC (School Advisory Committee) once they become available. The information gathered is valuable to me and will be used to plan for next year and the future.
This leads me to invite you all to consider applying to the SAC. It's a fun group - shout out to Debi Panning, Michael Harrison, Helen Dai and Dylan Dean - and we meet monthly to discuss how to make Hallinan even better than it is. If you would like to apply, click on the School Board Advisory Committees web page to learn more and find the application. Applications are due on April 7.
There are additional ways we can all cooperate this month to help people in need. Please read about our Hunger Fighter Food Drive and the HOPES (Hands on Projects Encouraging Service) below. We'll be accepting food and hygiene items for the Hunger Fighter Food Drive as well as backpacks and comfort items for HOPES in the vestibule all next week.
Today is a good day to COOPERATE and enjoy the sun!

Hunger Fighters Food Drive: their mission is to provide reliable access to nutritious food and essential hygiene items in an inclusive, accepting environment in Lake Oswego and neighboring communities. You can help by bringing food and hygiene items to Hallinan and dropping them off in the vestibule by the office. Learn more about the Hunger Fighters here.
HOPES will be collecting items to fill backpacks for our Foster Care Emergency Backpack Project. When a child is awaiting placement, they often come to the child welfare office scared and with few of their personal belongings. The caring social workers in the offices have comfort backpacks to give to children in these situations and we can help provide those bags. If you would like to participate, please use the following SUG to choose item(s).

Our Lost and Found is multiplying by the day! Please stop by between now and April 14 to look through the pile and see if any of these treasures belong to your family. At the end of the day on April 14, all unretrieved items will be donated to a worthy cause.

New Carnival Date!
Mark your calendars! The most anticipated event of the school year will now be held on Wednesday, May 31st!
Art Auction Fundraiser
Although the main auction is canceled, we are excited to move forward with an "Art Auction Fundraiser''. This art auction fundraiser will raise money for the fifth-grade celebration team. But all kids, in all grades, will be enriched by creating a single piece of group art with their fellow classmates. Each class will have a beautiful piece of art auctioned off.
Mrs Musgrove's class still needs a volunteer (or two) so they can participate. All of our other classes have at least one volunteer, but many of them would appreciate additional support.
Please check the SUG and see who needs additional help:
https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090c4aa9ae2aa3f49-classroom6#/
Once the art is completed it will be available to view in the Hallinan library, photographed, and listed for auction online. The actual auction will be held the same day as the carnival, Wednesday, May 31st. Please check the weekly newsletter for updated information.
Host Family Needed
We need one to two host families for our Missoula Children's Theater directors. Please email us with any and all questions. Here is the SUG:

YouthTruth Survey
Last call to provide your feedback in the YouthTruth survey! Please complete this anonymous survey by March 24: ytsurvey.org/losdfamily23. The survey will take about 15 minutes of your time, but the information gathered will be extremely valuable to us as we plan for next year and the future.
Please note:
The survey needs to be completed in one sitting.
We ask that one member of each household fill out the survey.
If you have more than one child who attends the same school, you may respond to the survey multiple times - one time per child.
If you write any comments, please do not include your name or anything else that might identify you. Your responses are anonymous, and they will be combined with the responses of other parents and guardians before being shared back with school and district leadership.
if you have any questions about the survey, or our plans for how we will use your feedback, please contact Principal Griffiths. Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. Your response is incredibly beneficial to us and will help us improve your child's school experience.
March Nurse News
Handwashing
While hand sanitizer is a great option, it cannot replace good handwashing. Be sure to wash your hands after using the restroom, sneezing or coughing, or touching your face to help keep our community healthy.
Allergies?
If your student has a health plan that includes an Antihistamine (Benadryl), please be aware that you must provide it. If your child has an allergic reaction or potential exposure to allergen and you have not provided it, we will have to call 911 per the regulations and guidelines of OHA/ODE/CCESD.
If you would like to speak to your school nurse, click the link below for contact information.
Seeking Volunteers for Our Advisory Committees
We need you! Please consider applying for our school or district advisory committee for terms starting next school year. There is one application for all committees -- please mark the committee that is of interest to you. Only committees with vacancies -- School Advisory Committees and Long Range Facility Planning -- are listed in the application for this period. See the charters posted on the School Board Advisory Committees web page for more information about each committee.
Applications are due Friday, April 7 at 5 p.m. Recommendations and selections will be made in April. All applicants will be notified by May 1.

Do you want to help shape the future of the Lake Oswego library?
Visit the link below and provide any feedback before April 28th.
The City has embarked on a Library Visioning Process. Its purpose is to shape a community vision for the Lake Oswego library of the future. From now through May, that process will cast a broad net to engage the Lake Oswego community.
The goals of the visioning process:
- Create a shared community vision for the future of Lake Oswego Public Library
- Understand residents' current and future needs for library services, facilities, and amenities
- Determine the Library’s role to address community challenges and meet emerging needs
We seek input from everyone in the community to help ensure your library is serving your needs.
We hope you will participate with us in what promises to be a rich, enlightening, community-building experience, one that sets a vision for serving our community for future generations.
