Patriot's Pen
Week 32: April 29 - May 3
A message from Mireles
Week 32 is here and looks pretty ambitious, with Patriot Camp, an Orchestra Concert, the Career and Engaged Learning Expo, GT MSIP Night, our 8th grade Dance and the NEF 5K run/walk this Saturday-- I'm thinking we need more than just two Jeans days! Let's go ahead and tackle this week in jeans M-F!
I want to thank our Department Coordinators who happily communicated lots of information at our dept. meetings last week. It isn't easy leading when some of the information you are disseminating isn't always popular. Even still, all of them handle their roles with such grace and consideration, I cannot say enough about how impressed I am with their leadership.
With that, change isn't easy but it is necessary
First round 8th grade Math & Reading STAAR scores will be shared with students this week and SSI will begin.
Reminder, 8th-grade teachers: students who did not pass this first round will be pulled from various courses to begin required SSI tutoring. If they are pulled from your class, they will not be held accountable for any missed work. They will not be pulled from HS credit courses or Science/Social Studies.
Please continue to be supportive and encouraging of our students.

From the Desk of Mrs. Montamat
After 30 years in public ed (28 in NISD), I've made the decision to retire. For the last couple of years my passion and stamina has wavered, and I thought that a change in venue would reignite and renew me. So I applied and was hired to join you all here at Rawlinson. However, this Spring I recognized that my time as a public educator has come to an end. It is time for me to turn the page and begin a new chapter ... one that allows me serve others, but also leaves more time and energy for my family and our home.
Although short, thank you for allowing me to be part of the Rawlinson Family.
PLEASE continue to prioritize the students, taking extra care of those who need it the most. No one would should EVER be made to feel "less than" for any reason or in any way. Remember that even subtle differences in the ways you greet, correct and engage with students has a HUGE impact in whether or not they feel respected by you and whether or not they believe you care about them. Students will work harder and achieve more when they feel cared for and respected.
Also, remember that NO ONE works in isolation. Everything that anyone does (or does not do) impacts everyone else. Your actions either contribute to or contaminate the culture. I pray for a #RawlinsonUnited future for the Rawlinson community.
Sincerely,
Julie
District Deadline for Teacher Choice
Teacher choice for 2018-2019 closes at the end of the day on Tuesday, April 30. That means all out of district certificates and all attendance needs to be in our offices by that deadline. You can scan attendance rosters and email to Carol.Pett@nisd.net. For workshops, conferences, etc. taken outside of NISD, teachers must apply for transfer credit on ERO and then submit their documentation to Carol Pett to be reviewed and approved from our end.
The new window for Teacher Choice begins on May 1. We have hundreds of offerings for the summer that would count.
If your teachers have questions, please don't hesitate to have them call Carol Pett (210-397-7922) or Cynthia Gutierrez (210-397-7915).
Record Keeping Reminders
Sponsors,
Please keep track of your funds on ledgers/registers/spreadsheets. Electronic or paper, either is fine. If electronic, keep an updated paper copy in your binder. Balance them every month. I put "bank" statements from the district in your box each month to balance with. If you don't get one, or need another copy, don't hesitate to ask me.
Keep track of how much money is on your open POs. When you ask for a PO, I will email it to you. Easy practice is to print one copy for literally keeping track on & put it in your SAF binder. Pencil in what your spend & add so that you always know your running balance. The copy will become it's own ledger of sorts. I do keep track as well, but I can’t always be available to give you this info when you might need it.
If asked by Admin or Audit, you should know & be able to accurately produce all of the details about the funds you are responsible for. It's especially important that you have your records up-to-date at the end of the school year. Each of you will be expected to turn in your binders to Lori as part of your end-of-year checkout procedures. All records must be complete and accurate.
- Dept heads, while not audited like SAF accounts, best practice is to keep a ledger/register as well of the campus funds available to you with your spending records so that you don't miss out on spending it on your current year students.
- All ordering requests were to be submitted by April 11th. At this point, if you have something that you really need, you can still submit the request. However, it's possible that funds have already been reallocated and the order cannot be fulfilled for this school year.
- If your club has a change fund checked out, it will need to be signed back in before the last day of school. Once you have completed your last event or day of using those funds, go ahead and come see me to turn it in. No checkout without this completed.
- SAF After Fundraising Reports - Watch your due dates. All are due no later than 30 days after your event, according to what you filled out on your application. All-year fundraisers are due by June 7th. No checkout without them complete.
- Cynthia, Lori, and Joy. Thank you so much for all of your help putting the Patriot Transition Camp together. I couldn't have done it without you. You're amazing!
