Your One-Stop Online Learning Site is Adding Expanded Options
We are excited to share some new and "coming soon" options on the GenNET Portal!
K-5 Seat Time Waiver
Genesee ISD has been granted a K-5 Seat Time Waiver that can be shared with schools in Genesee County as well as counties contiguous to Genesee. All that is needed is a signed agreement by your district Superintendent. Also, we have added K-5 courses on the GenNET Portal, and any school in the state can enroll their students in these courses. For more information, please contact us at 810-591-4401 or visit our website www.gennet.us
Blended Learning Options - Coming Soon!
We are preparing to launch a new component to our GenNET Online Learning Portal: Blended Learning. Schools will have the option of purchasing content from a variety of providers, with different options to meet your school's specific needs. Watch for updates!
Dual Enrollment - Coming Soon!
We are working with several providers of dual enrollment courses, including colleges and universities here in Michigan, to provide schools with a variety of courses for high school students to earn college credits while meeting the requirements for high school graduation. This "two for the price of one" benefit helps students and their families save money and time as they are earning high school and college credits simultaneously.
Recent Changes in Michigan Legislation Relating to Online Learning
There have been a few changes in the legislation that guides online learning here in Michigan, but the main change for the 2015-16 school year is the participation requirement that must be satisfied for membership purposes. Schools are required to submit documentation of at least one (1) two-way interaction per week for each week of the four (4) week count period for 5-0-A, 5-0-B (Seat Time Waiver), and 5-0-D (21F) students. The interaction must be relevant to the course or student's progress. (Note: Parent or guardian facilitated two-way interaction may be required if the student is in grades K-5 and does not yet possess the skills necessary to participate in two-way interaction unassisted.)
At the end of the 2016-17 school year, districts will be required to submit a report of student growth for seat time waiver students (using a "growth to proficiency model") who have been participating in the STW program for 2 or more years.
Legislative changes are highlighted in the Michigan Pupil Accounting Manual (PAM), found by clicking on the link below.
