SPORTS RESULTS
7th Grade Boys Basketball at Home against Millington on 2/12 and away at Birch Run on 2/14
The 7th Grade Boys Basketball A-Team went 2-0 this week. On Monday, the team hosted Millington, earning a 45-30 victory. On Wednesday, the team travelled to Birch Run, coming away with a 44-26 victory. Cal McFadden was big, scoring 18 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Kaiden Knapik played a vital role, having to absorb additional minutes due to an Ethan Wenzel injury. Kaiden scored 7 points and was outstanding on defense, snatching 5 steals. Jackson Atkinson was also instrumental in the defensive end and also knocked down a nice mid range jumper for two.
The team will finish the season next week with contests against Alma and Ithaca.
8th Grade Boys Basketball at Home against Millington on 2/12
Our Hemlock 8th grade basketball team hosted the Millington Cardinals in a defensive battle in last night’s second game. Blake Willman led the Huskies with 14 tough points followed by Bentley Baumer and Kellan Schultz adding 6 apiece. The rest of the Huskie offense was evenly distributed with contributions from Cooper Gensch, Markus Plowden, and Roman Smith. Cameron McNalley, Tristyn Church, and Jaydon Polom also gave terrific minutes on the defensive end and rebounding, bringing the energy to be a catalyst for the offense. Huskies fight to the end in another tough one to win 38-29.
8th Grade Boys Basketball at Birch Run on 2/14
Our Huskie 8th graders ventured into Birch Run, the land of the giants where they faced two 6’7 beasts. The pack did not back down however, playing superb defense the entire game and sharing the ball to score. Sharpshooter Cooper Gensch led in scoring with 9 points, swishing three 3’s in the second half. Blake Willman was hot on his tail chipping in eight spectacular points to add to the Huskie total. Roman Smith and Tristyn Church scored key buckets down the stretch to pull Hemlock up by three with three minutes left. Kellan Schultz, Aiden Trinklein, Sam Dunton, and Bentley Baumer were doing all they could down low, grabbing rebounds and pushing the two giants out of the paint. Unfortunately Hemlock’s relentless defense started to give way due to the size and strength of the Panthers. In a hard fought battle to the end, the Huskies came up defeated 36-41.

HUSKIE HEALTH WITH NURSE BECKY
Super Bowl and CPR
What does football have to do with heart health you ask? Keep reading to find out. On Monday, February 5th, we had Mary Kraft from the American Heart Association do a presentation to each class on ways to keep our hearts healthy. She also encouraged the kids to learn Hands-Only CPR with their families. According to the CDC, "More than 356,000 people have an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in the United States every year,1 and about 60% to 80% of them die before reaching the hospital". On January 2, 2023, the world watched as Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest on live TV. The athletic trainer jumped into action and started CPR. It is because of his quick actions and early defibrillation that Damar is still with us today. Now his life mission is for everyone to learn hands-only CPR. Click on this link to read an article on the positive ripple effect that has resulted from this. Then, take the time to register your child by logging on to the American Heart Challenge. If you complete Finn's mission and learn Hands-Only CPR, your child will be entered into a drawing to win 2025 Super Bowl Tickets
