Standards-Based Report Card Update

We appreciate your input and the hard work of the committee of teachers who have worked on this project. We have started our discussion for the 2016-2017 standards-based report card based on the feedback from classroom teachers, administrators, and parents. In response to the input, we anticipate very minor revisions. We will be reconvening in August and anticipate sharing those changes with you early in the school year.

Your math coaches have been working on an alternative to the Bridges assessment used this year for K-2. Look for information from them when we return in August. It is our hope that administering these assessments provide much needed information for your PLCs as you use the results to guide instruction and decide who may need additional support and enrichment.

Still Seeking elementary science enthusiasts

The Next Generation Science Standards and new Engineering Practices will make for some exciting inquiry and exploration experiences for our students. If you would like to try out a few lessons before diving in head first, join Carla and the 11 other teachers that have already shown an interest in trying out at least one NGSS cross-curricular science lesson each trimester next year. These week-long lessons are literacy based; technology enhanced; include the new science standards with corresponding labs; and will have coordinated literacy and math activities aligned to our current practices. You will receive all of the materials and content needed for the work. Lastly, your involvement will include some additional after-school professional development, you may be asked to present at site-based meetings as the NGSS gains more local attention, and you will have the option to help create even more lessons that can be used. If interested, please email: CarlaMadrid@ccusd.org

Computers, Chromebooks & iPads, Oh My!

Principals, Ed. Services and CCEF have worked hard this year to bring more technology into our elementary schools. It will be exciting to see the many different ways these devices will be used for learning next school year. I am happy to say that all teachers who expressed an interest in the iPad and/or Chromebook Cafè sets for literacy integration before the deadline will be receiving their devices in the Fall. A total of 306 devices were purchased for elementary classroom teachers for use during Guided Reading, Daily 5 and more.

CGI Professional Development

Like the past two years, we will continue to offer our four-day Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) professional development for teachers that have not yet received training (TK-5) beginning with a two-day training. Teachers can choose to participate on August 10 & 11th (extra duty pay) or on September 8 & 9th (Substitute Coverage). Days 3 and 4 of the PD series will happen in November and February respectively. If you are new to CGI and are interested in the summer/August PD opportunity please CLICK HERE.

Continuing Education

Thank you for providing your input and opinions on our Continued Education Input form. With our continued efforts toward "Deeper, Stronger, Better," we look forward to bringing you learning opportunities to grow your comfort and capacity with our current initiatives. Look for opportunities being offered in multiple formats and at different locations beginning in August. You may want to check your district email at the end of each summer month for updates on opportunities that may occur pre-service in August.

Looking to differentiate and increase rigor in your classroom? There will be an opportunity in the fall to attend training that will look at meeting the needs of your students. All grades are encouraged to sign up; for grades 4th- 8th, this training will qualify you to be a GATE Cluster teacher in our district. Stay tuned for dates!

Coming in the fall, we will offer an opportunity for GATE trained teachers to attend GATE 102, looking at strategies to even further differentiate instruction in your classroom.

Congratulations to our second year teachers for graduating from Induction! Our group this year has been so inspiring and have shown such a compassion for children and the core belief that all children can learn.

We will begin again in the fall with a new group of first year teachers and our current first year teachers will move on to their second year. Congratulations for a job well done!

Textbook Adoption: On the May 24th Board meeting, Benchmark Adelante was approved as the K-5 Spanish Language Arts adoption. Asunción is in contact with Benchmark and is working to establish a 1/2 day training date to expose you to the materials. I've requested a summer date, but we will keep you posted. Additionally, he's working to make the TEs available to us electronically. Please look to your emails for any updates.

Assessments and Data:

ENIL Rollout: Thank you to the cohort of teachers who attended the ENIL training. Dates are being finalized this week continued PD with Mario, so please look in your emails for updates.

Running Record Data for English and Spanish:

As the year comes to close, we’d like to gather district wide programmatic data on our dual students. K-2 teachers, please send me either a hard copy or an electronic version of your Running Record’s data. Both English and Spanish preferred depending on your grade level. If you have any questions, please contact Mina.

Biliteracy Awards:

Thank you to the SIP 5th grade and middle school dual teachers, and JIP teacher representatives for taking the time to score the Biliteracy writing prompts.

Dual teachers, we need your help! In our second year of full implementation, we'd like to solidify our district's purpose and goal with the Biliteracy Award. I'd like to bring together a committee of interested teachers. Time commitment is about 2-3 days and/or after school times. Please email minashiratori@ccusd.org if you are interested in this committee.
