Seussical Principals Create Community ~ You Can, Too!
***UPDATE:
Read Across America Day is March 2, and our principals are in the spirit and celebrating reading. They stepped out of their normal routines (and comfort zones) to dress as Seuss characters and encourage all of you to participate in fun and help build our culture of reading in our BHMS family. Look through the list of ideas below, have someone take your picture, and send it to Ms. Ninteman. The photo will be in one of our future publications.
Photo Ideas
1. Take a picture of yourself or your family reading in a favorite place in your home, yard or park trail
2. Take a picture of yourself reading with a pet
3. Using materials found around the home, take a photo of yourself/family reenacting a scene from a picture book
4. Using materials found around the home, take a photo of yourself as a character from a book
5. Other ideas that you have to celebrate reading!
*All photos need to be appropriate for school audiences. (Example: No weapons.)
Help Kwame Alexander Write a Poem
The Civil Rights Memorial Center is partnering with bestselling author Kwame Alexander and the community to produce ‘A Community Poem,’ a new exhibit that will be featured inside the museum when it reopens later this year.
Members of the community are invited to submit an original poem around the themes of racial justice and human rights. Alexander will select lines from multiple submissions and combine them into one single community poem. The final poem, representing the combined work of multiple contributors across the United States, will be displayed on a digital screen in the final gallery of the Civil Rights Memorial Center.
The deadline to submit is March 10. Click Community Poem for more details and watch the video to hear from Kwame Alexander.

National Magazine Seeks Girl Reporters
How to Become a Reporter for New Moon Girls
Girl Reporters are crucial to our magazine. They volunteer for story assignments for future issues of the magazine. They can also pitch articles based on their personal interests and passions.
For example, in our upcoming Spring issue, Solange researched and wrote the Women's Work article about Vice President Kamala Harris. And in our last issue, Gemma wrote about unsustainable "fast fashion" and its devastating impact on workers and our earth.
Girls can apply at New Moon Application. When [you] apply with parent/guardian permission, [you'll] become part of Luna’s Team and get email alerts with writing opportunities.

In Case You Missed It ~ Drawing Across the Color Line with Kids
"These beloved children's book artists, all #OwnVoices creators, talk to each other about their own evolutions, from early childhood to today, in representing people who look like them. They draw each other, each across a color line, and have suggestions for how adults can support kids to use drawing as a tool for seeing and honoring others. After the video, the artists will join us to answer your questions."
