Temporary Remote Information

Message from Omaha Public Schools

Dear Burke High Families,

We are writing with important information about teaching and learning through the days to come. Reflecting our commitment to the health and safety of our students, staff and their families, we are taking two important steps: testing for all Burke High staff on Friday, Nov. 6 (students will not be in session) and a transition to fully remote learning from Monday, Nov. 9 through Friday, Nov. 20.

Today, we received reports of four new individuals testing positive for COVID-19. Currently, we have a total of 12 active cases identified in students and staff who were on-site, with additional staff quarantined due to exposure in the community. Our contact tracing team has investigated each case. Anyone who was identified as a close contact received direct communication and guidance. We know with community transmission of the virus that cases will be identified in staff and students who attend our school. Though we have many layers of precautions in place to limit spread, adding staff testing on Friday, remote learning through Nov. 20 and time for an especially thorough disinfecting of our school will enhance protections for students and staff. There will be no in-person activities or athletics available while students learn remotely.

Beginning Monday, the school day will proceed virtually, on schedule. School meals will be available for pick up through the Meals2Go program at nearby campuses. Complete details are available in the Meals2Go section at ops.org. If students are not in the vehicle to collect meals, a parent or guardian will need verification like a report card.

As a reminder, this transition to fully remote is ONLY for Burke High students and instructional staff. All other students will continue their regular Family 3/2 schedule.

We communicate directly with anyone identified as a close contact of someone who tested positive for COVID-19. However, if you feel proactive testing would be appropriate for your student, please reach out to your healthcare provider or TestNebraska to schedule an appointment.

Though I am limited in what I can share due to privacy concerns, we are here to assist your family. Please do not hesitate to keep in touch. We are here for your family. We understand this is a very unique time with many challenges and we sincerely appreciate your partnership.

Mr. Darren Rasmussen
