Pawsome News
October 4, 2019
Dear Pawsome Loring Families,
Thanks to everyone that attended Open House and helped to kick off a Pawsome school year! If you were not able to make this night, please reach out to your child's teacher for important information you missed. Parent/Teacher conferences are another great opportunity to learn about your child's school day. Please make sure you sign up for a conference with your child's teacher.
Thanks in advance for taking a few minutes to read over the information in this newsletter. If you have any questions, please reach out.

David Gaita, Assistant Principal
Safety Week
Tomorrow morning there will be a Bike Rodeo in the Loring School parking lot from 9-10 am. There will be an obstacle set up from Safe Routes where students can practice and learn hand signals.
Here is some more information that will help you to review what our students learned this week.
How to Raise Happy Kids: Commit Acts of Kindness
At Loring, we are regularly talking about kindness and how being kind can make you and others feel better. In her article, Jennifer King Lindley, shares some easy ways that you can have children and the whole family spread kindness.
Make Happy Happen
- Declare a weekly Three Good Deeds Day. Challenge each family member to chalk up a trio of thoughtful acts, then report back at dinnertime. To chart how much kindness your family can spread (good karma in the bank!), get our printable Good Deeds Tracker (see complete article) to hang on your fridge.
- Keep a kindness fund. Donate together to a favorite charity. The bonus payoff: feeling happier than if you had treated yourself. (In a 2007 study, when researchers gave subjects $5 cash, those who spent it for the good of others reported just that result.) To make it fun, tag a jar with our printable Kindness Fund label (see below), set it in a central spot, and be sure deposits are greeted with hearty cheers.
Volunteer Together
Boost the feel-good benefit from altruism by donating time as a family. These sites can connect you with organizations and ideas that let the whole gang pitch in:
- doinggoodtogether.org: This site shares a slew of creative charitable projects, with step-by-step directions, from baking biscuits for shelter dogs to cleaning up trash in your local park.
- generationon.org: The organization is all about getting kids excited to help out in their communities, with suggestions by age and interest.
- volunteermatch.org: Type in a zip code to find nearby family-friendly opportunities or long-distance ways to assist, such as sending care packages to U.S. troops.

MCAS Results
Student results are being distributed through the ASPEN Family Portal on Tuesday, October 8 to families with students currently in the SPS system. Families of students who have matriculated will receive their student’s MCAS results by mail. The results document can be found in the Published Reports section of your Family account where you would normally find Report Cards and IEP Progress Reports. The state formats this results document as a printable PDF booklet, so be aware that the first page is actually the back cover if you were to print it. If you have specific questions regarding your student’s results, please contact your classroom teacher or building administrator. If you have questions regarding SPS curriculum or instruction, please contact any member of the Teaching and Learning team.
