What We Are Learning
ELA
- use text features (e.g., bold print, captions, key words, italics) to locate information and make and verify predictions about contents of text
- Students use comprehension skills to analyze how words, images, graphics, and sounds work together in various forms to impact meaning. Students will continue to apply earlier standards with greater depth in increasingly more complex texts
-follow and explain a set of written multi-step directionsMath
- determine the solutions to problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals in minutes using pictorial models or tools such as a 15 minute event plus a 30 minute event equals 45 minutes
Science
Observe and describe the physical characteristics of environments and how they support populations and communities within an ecosystem.
Identify and describe the flow of energy in a food chain and predict how changes in a food chain affect the ecosystem such as removal of frogs from a pond or bees from a field
Describe environmental changes such as floods and droughts where some organisms thrive and others perish or move to new locations.
Social Studies
- explain the concept of a free market as it relates to the U.S. free enterprise system.
- identify examples of how a simple business operates
- explain how the cost of production and selling price affect profits
- identify individuals, past and present, including Henry Ford and other Wallace Amos, Milton Hershey, and Sam Walton, who have started new businesses

Save the Date: School Walk for Diabetes April 1st
The 2017 edition of Keller ISD's annual School Walk for Diabetes is set for April 1 at the Keller ISD Athletics Complex.
Proceeds from School Walk for Diabetes will go to the American Diabetes Association to fund diabetes research and education.
The theme of this year's School Walk is "Diabetes, It's No Joke." The event will once again begin at 9 a.m. with an Opening Ceremony, followed by the walk which begins at 9:15 a.m. Doors and registration will open that day at 8 a.m. Keller ISD's Employee Olympics will take place prior to the walk, beginning at 8:15 a.m. Prizes will be awarded following the walk at 10:15 a.m.
The lineup for this year's School Walk for Diabetes includes a silent auction, jugglers, vendors, craft stations, music, food, and a lot more fun. More information will be made available in the coming weeks, but you can already visit your campus nurse to register for your campus or order a T-shirt for this year's event.
