Home Curriculum Message - The Importance of Grit and Determination
Set aside a certain time in the day for your child to complete work, and then hold them to it. Learning how to keep going even when you want to quit is an important skill that leads to success in school, work, and life. Teach your child the importance of grit and determination; push for them to work hard and not to give up easily. Expect them to redo work to improve it, and require them to show you what they have accomplished.
We need your help more than ever during this closure to ensure that your child continues to learn and grow!

8th grade updates:
Early College High School application packets have been delivered to Early College. If your student has not completed the written Student Response form, please locate it in your child’s bookbag or print it at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bVvxdzaYAZg-U4rp3mpjb1yG3EB1iHWN/view. Have your child complete it and hang onto it for the interview.
Please stay tuned for instructions from Early College, either on their website or through email, mail, or phone calls, regarding interviews and lottery selection, and acceptance notifications.
9th grade registration forms and transportation forms have been given to all 8th grade students. If you and your child have not completed these forms and turned them in to your child’s homeroom teacher, please take a look through your child’s bookbag for them. If you find them, complete them and have them ready to return to school with your child when schools reopen. After several weeks of daily announcements and reminders, we’ve only collected about ⅓ of these much needed forms from our 8th grade students.

I am currently recording myself reading Ghost Boy. The ELA teachers are uploading it to Google Classroom!! Sit down and listen with them. It’s a great book.
Twelve-year-old Jerome is shot by a police officer who mistakes his toy gun for a real threat. As a ghost, he observes the devastation that's been unleashed on his family and community in the wake of what they see as an unjust and brutal killing.

G (Daily schedule with details for assignments) (Currently on week 2 lessons).
New Updates with schedule for the remainder of the week as well below...
Good afternoon students and families,
I wanted to reach out to touch base with everyone, and hope that all is well.
Starting tomorrow through Friday of this week, I will be holding Google
Hangout sessions per class at a set time to answer any questions with work. I did a hangout last week as well, though I hope to see more familiar faces this week. The class
times are as follows:
C1: 12-12:30
C2: 12:30-1
C3: 1-1:30
C4: 1:30-2
Note: C3/4 will be from 1-1:30 for tomorrow as I have an apt to attend.
Thanks for your flexibility. I hope to see many of you on Google Hangouts
throughout the week asking questions as well as through email. The
Google Hangouts link is as follows:
In addition, Ms. Faulkner and I thought it would be fun to do an anchor text discussion to connect back to our in class study on Frederick Douglass and Slavery. Each day or so Ms. Faulkner will read you a couple of chapters from the text "Ghost Boy." Your task will be to jot down some connections (may include: characters, symbols/images, themes, colors; etc) you find within the text "Ghost Boy," and what we have learned in class from either: "If the People Could Fly," video clips, Frederick Douglass 'excerpts,' class discussions; etc.
This might be done easiest in a KWL format. What do we know already about African American heritage, what do we still want to learn, and what did we learn collectively at the end of this new anchor text? Although we can not be in class together, this is a great way to stay connected, ask questions and to stay on task.
All my best,
~Ms. Baechle
MS. WOODS - MATH
