WORTH IT: FOR PARENTS
The temptation to live, work, parent, or be what we think other people think we ought
to be is as strong as the Mississippi River. Yet, study after study shows that this kind of
thinking, living, and parenting, leads to one thing: regret.
In fact, The Guardian recently did a study on the regrets of those folks who were near the end of
their lives. The top regret? “I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life
others expected of me.”
Put another way? “I wish I’d lived my life as if I believed that I was worth it.”
When you place a higher value on your life; when you choose to believe that you are worth it,
you can look to the temptation to be someone you aren’t and say, “I’m done spending time with
you because you don’t value me the way that I value me. You want me to do stupid stuff. Only
stupid people do stupid things, and I value myself far too much for that nonsense.”
How do you do that? Consider the rocking chair test:
Let’s imagine ourselves at eighty years old. We’re settling into our most comfortable chair, and thinking back on our life. We ask ourselves, “What would eighty-year-old me say about what I’m going through right now? How would eighty-year-old me feel about the way
that current me feels about myself? About the amount time I spend on my phone?
About how hard I was on my son or daughter last week? About the amount of
time I spent at the office?” We get roughly eighteen years with each of our kids at home. They are worth the best of you. You are worth the best of you. Live your life in such a way that when you get to eighty, you aren’t looking back with regrets and pain and say, “I wish I’d
believed that I was worth it.”

Data Verification Completed?
Letters have been sent home with every student in NISD informing them about the new data verification process for returning students. This process will eliminate much of the 1st day of school paperwork. (Yeah!) Please ask your child for the letter and begin the process as soon as possible.
Each letter contains a unique snapcode for each NISD student. If you have multiple students, you will need each child's letter with their personal code in order to complete the process.
If for some reason your child did not receive a letter, please call the front office at 210-397-8400. If you need assistance completing the process, let us know.
Stopping by the school? If so, we have a computer set up in the front office to help you take care of this task. Just let anyone in the front know you'd like to complete the data verification process!
NJHS Information
If you were not able to attend the NJHS Parent Meeting, or just need a recap of what was discussed, please review the NJHS Parent Night Slideshow. Also, if your child is in need of the Student Activity Information Form (application), there are limited copies in the front office, or here is the link to the application form: Student Activity Information Form. You can find other helpful/important information on the HGMS NJHS website. Please go to NJHS Website to find a checklist, video to help fill out the application, important dates, and more.
Please do not forget that applications are due no later than Friday, March 8th, at 4:00 PM to Mrs. Jordan in room C133.
Please contact Mrs. Jordan, the NJHS Sponsor, at Kelly.jordan@nisd.net if you have any questions. Again, congratulations for your child's achievement in scholarship.
