Gun Rights
By Brady Sechrist
Pros of the rights to carry concealed weapons:
- Concealed handguns save lives.
- The right to bear arms is guaranteed by the U.S. constitution.
- Most adults who have concealed guns are law abiding citizens.
- Help people who cannot rely or wait on the police to show up.
- Law abiding citizens should have the right to defend themselves against criminals.
Cons of the carrying concealed weapons:
- Permitting concealed guns increases crime.
- Increases the chances of a confrontation becoming deadly.
- Background checks do not prevent all dangerous people acquiring a concealed gun.
- People with concealed weapons make unarmed citizens feel unsafe.
- Public safety should be left to the professionals (the cops).
My opinion
A concealed handgun is permitted in all 50 states and should continue being allowed. The right to bear arms is in the constitution, and a right all Americans are entitled to. It is a proven fact that most criminals are not as likely to attack someone who they believe is armed. The best thing to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.
It is unfair to label the majority based on what a few people do with a concealed handgun. Most carriers of concealed handguns are law abiding people who want to protect themselves and others, from criminals or the mentally ill that obtain weapons with the intent to do harm.
Our government is also known to go to extremes with certain laws. Many believe that allowing the government to take away our concealed handguns is allowing them to go even further to take even more of our weapons that the majority obtains and uses legally.
