2nd Semester Reading Homework
Your child received this green 1/2 sheet with the reading prompts for this semester. Please refer to the questions on it as you are reading with your student. When you finish each day, please return the green sheet to their book baggie so it does not get lost. Talking about the characters, events, and vocabulary in their books boosts your child's comprehension and language skills. Thanks for supporting your child with these activities!
Curriculum Update
Phonics
We are starting our 4th unit in phonics. We will be learning about r controlled vowels (-er, -ar, -or). We will also be working on multi-syllable words and chunking words into parts. The tricky words this unit are because, today, yesterday and tomorrow.
Writing
We began our informational (non-fiction) writing unit this week! We are learning first about facts vs. opinions. We will then transition into learning about different non-fiction topics and writing informational pieces about them. Some of our favorite writing topics are dinosaurs, sloths and spiders!
Math
We began our unit on measurement with standard and nonstandard measurements. We will also work on graphing data toward the end of the month. This is a super fun math unit with lots of hands-on activities!
Science
Students will continue learning about animals. They will be learning about animal body parts and how animals use their body parts for survival. They will also study animal adults and babies and compare similarities and differences.
