Tiller's Tips

August 2020

Welcome to the first edition of INN the Know for the 2020-2021 school year! We are looking forward to begin a new year and continue to plan for the opening of Fountain Inn High School (FIHS) next fall. This past spring and summer have challenged us all to think differently about so many aspects of our lives. Although we have not been able to be physically together, we have still made significant progress in planning for our new high school. Main areas of focus have been athletic programs, instructional pathways, and planning for the furnishing of all spaces in the building. In this edition, you will learn more about all of these activities.

This year we have added a school secretary, instructional coach, and athletic director to the faculty and staff at FIHS. Our home base is at Rudolph Gordon School in a classroom upstairs in the middle school wing. We are thankful for Mrs. Parker and the wonderful staff at RGS for continuing to welcome us as we plan for FIHS to open in Fall 2021.

As we move through this school year, there will be many opportunities for you to be involved in the process of opening FIHS. I encourage you to get involved #RISEUP and be a part of our school community. We are excited about the possibilities for new growth this school year will bring!

Committed to the success of all children, I remain.

Beam's Bulletin

Welcome to the first Beam’s Bulletin! My name is Lindsey Beam and I am the Instructional Coach at Fountain Inn High School. I have spent the last seven years teaching Biology and Chemistry and advising Youth in Government at Riverside High School. While I have spent most of my career as a Warrior, I’m ready to #RiseUp as a member of Fury Nation! I am most excited about the innovation and student-centered environment of Fountain Inn High.

On a personal note, I am married to Zee, and we have two labs, Tank and Dex! We enjoy traveling (when we can) - some of my favorite trips have been to Las Vegas, Jamaica, and Honduras. I love spending my time with friends and family grilling out, tailgating at sporting events, attending concerts, and playing yard games like cornhole and giant Jenga!

Throughout the school year in this section of the newsletter, I’ll highlight what a Fury student can expect out of their education.

Milestones along the Journey

We have been busy this spring and summer! Here are some of the milestones we have accomplished along the way:

  • An athletic director and head football coach have been hired.

  • We have begun conditioning and practice for D team football.

  • Football equipment and uniforms have been ordered.

  • A timeline to add athletic programs has begun based on feedback from student surveys from 2019-2020. A new survey will be released in September 2020 to gather additional feedback.

  • A weight room has been set up for D team football at Rudolph Gordon School.

  • An instructional coach for FIHS has been hired.

  • Pathways in Biomedical Engineering and Health Science have been added to the instructional program.

  • We had a Topping Out ceremony onsite and the final beam has been placed in the building of our school.

  • We have an official sign in the town of Fountain Inn pointing to the location of FIHS.

  • The process to apply for membership to the South Carolina High School League has begun.

  • We have met with furniture vendors and will begin the process of planning for each of the spaces in the school next month.

  • A school secretary has been hired and we have set up a school bank account.

  • We have completed one year with our Principal's Cabinet and are looking forward to welcoming new members to the group this year!

Have a Wonderful Start Back to School!

The new FIHS building is moving along. Brick is going up on parts of the school, and the fields in front of the school are green and almost ready for mowing. Drive by sometime if it’s been a while since you’ve seen it!

Until the school is ready for us, we are now in our temporary office at Rudolph Gordon School. We are on the second floor overlooking the middle school cafeteria on the eighth-grade side. . Come by and say hello sometime - we’d love to meet you!
