Unit 9 & 10 - Opinion Writing
We will be going a little out of order in Units 9 and 10 of ELA, in order to allow time for students to complete their Quarter 4 Writing TGA. As we work in Unit 9, students will begin planning and drafting their Opinion Essay, which will be their Quarter 4 TGA that they will turn in at the end of Unit 10. Please make sure to stay on track with completing lessons to ensure that students are going through all parts of the writing process for their Opinion Essay.
Unit 9 - The Tale of Despereaux
After we finish our opinion writing unit, we will be doing a novel study of The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo. This novel was provided in the ELA curriculum. It is important that students are staying up to date on lessons, so they are prepared to discuss the book in ELA classes. If your student struggles reading independently, we encourage you to read this with them so that they do not fall behind. You can also find a playlist of the chapters being read aloud so your student can follow along here.
Math
Unit 10 - Fractions
In Unit 10, students will be learning about fractions. We will work on naming and identifying unit fractions and non-unit fractions as well as look at the different ways to represent fractions.
Unit 11 - Equivalent Fractions & Comparisons
In Unit 11, students will build on their study of fractions by learning about equivalent fractions and comparing fractions. We will be learning to recognize the same part of a whole by using fraction strips and models.
MindPlay
In order to complete the lesson, students need to click the "Open MindPlay" link inside the course and actively work for 30 minutes in MindPlay before marking the lesson complete in the OLS.
