VIDEO: First responders train at former Dyer-Kelly campus

Construction Manager Laura Leet invited the fire department along with SWAT teams from the FBI and Sacramento County Sheriff's Office to conduct real-life training at the former Dyer-Kelly Elementary School this summer. The week of training included testing of bombs that could be used in a hostage situation, simulated fires, and tactical entry onto a school site.

The local agencies involved were all appreciative to have a school site to train in, especially since the old Dyer-Kelly campus is being demolished and they could work without concern for damage. It was a great idea by the facilities team to make sure our local first responders can train for emergencies on a school site.

The solar carport project at Rio Americano is nearly complete. Funded by Prop. 39, the structure will provide shade for cars in the overflow lot, and will reduce energy costs at the school
