Innovator Update
GPS Global Academy - September 8, 2021
Week 4!
Hello, Global Families!
Now that we've reached the month of September, you'll start to hear from your teachers (elementary) or advisors (secondary) about Student Connect Conferences. These are brief meetings that connect students (and parents!) with their teacher/advisor and aim to:
- set goals
- monitor progress
- improve students' online learning skills
Student Connect Conferences are a great opportunity for you and your child to build a working relationship with a person on campus who you can go to if needed. They'll also take the place of elementary parent-teacher conferences.
Look for an email from your teacher/advisor soon! We hope you have a great week! If you have any questions or needs, let us know at GAOnline@gilbertschools.net!
Required: Illuminate Fall testing (7th through 12th grade)
You may take the assessments at home and even count them toward class attendance (just remember to log it into IC)! To access, click the 'Illuminate' tile in your RapidIdentity portal and follow the prompts to your exams.
PSAT Testing - 10th & 11th graders
All participating 10th grade students must confirm they will be attending no later than September 15 by completing this form (click here)
If Juniors wish to participate (for a cost of $22) they should register here no later than September 17 at 12 noon.
Look for more information emailed your way in the coming weeks.

SOS: Signs of Suicide Presentation (Elementary)
The 5th and 6th grade Signs of Suicide presentation will be facilitated by our social worker and school psychologist on September 20 during one of your student's live lessons. If you would prefer that your student not participate in this activity, your teacher will provide an "opt-out" form and your child will not be required to attend.
(Note: There is a similar opportunity offered to 7th through 12th grade students; we will announce that information as soon as it is available)
The following description of this program can be found on the GPS website:
As part of our commitment to prevention education, Gilbert Public Schools offers depression awareness and suicide prevention training as part of the SOS (Signs of Suicide) Prevention Program.
The program has proven to be successful at increasing help-seeking by students concerned about themselves or a friend and is the only school-based suicide prevention program listed by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration as an evidence-based program. It helps students and adults demystify the confusion around what constitutes normal development and what may be a potentially serious issue.
Please review the resources listed below to learn more about the SOS program at each level. The elementary school presentation is provided for your information, and the link for the junior high and high school programs is listed below with the login information. The link will allow you to access valuable information about the presentations, as well as resources on the warning signs of suicide, anxiety, depression, and tips on how to talk to your children about mental health.
