Welcome Back!

We are so excited to begin the new school year! The faculty and staff at Quail Hollow Middle School are committed to the success of all of our Falcons and can't wait to help our Falcons soar in the 2017-18 school year!

This edition of the Falcon Connection has several pieces of important information to help you get ready for this school year!

Open House

Open House for 7th and 8th graders and their families is Tuesday, August 22nd from 3:30-6:00 and for 6th graders and their families on Wednesday, August 23rd from 11:00-1:00 or 4:00-6:00. Families will complete Back to School Paperwork before picking up student schedules. You can save time by completing the paperwork in advance (there are only 3 sheets this year!). At Open House, you will have the opportunity to meet teachers, order PE Uniforms and Spirit Wear, as well as sign up for before/after-school clubs and activities. You will also be able to get transportation information if you did not receive it in the Back-to-School Mailing.

Back to School Paperwork

We're going a little bit more green this year and have condensed many of the forms into ONE signature page! We will still need a Emergency Health Form for all students as well as a Learning Compact from each student and his/her family. Save time and print them out before Open House!

School Supply Lists

Make sure you've checked out the School Supply List for this school year! Please make note that Divergent is no longer on the supply list for 6th grade. There will be some supplies available for families at Open House that have been generously donated by Forest Hill Church. Stop by the Media Center to pick them up!

Dress Code

Review the dress code before the first day of school! There is one update to note: bottoms must be fist length when the students arms are fully extended. A few more highlights: straps must be three fingers wide (no off the shoulder tops), leggings are only allowed with a top that is fist length or longer. Check out the dress code here.

Immunizations: Required for 7th Grade

Review the flyer below for information about immunization requirements for 7th graders. The deadline is September 28. Students that do not have up-to-date immunization records on file may be excluded form school. Below, there is also a flyer with information about BIG SHOT Saturdays where you can get immunizations!

Get Your Physical -- Save the Date for Fall Sports!

Fall sports for 7th and 8th graders kick up as soon as we return to school! Mark your calendars that tryouts are scheduled to start after Labor Day for Football, Golf, Cheer, Softball, and Volleyball. As the start of school approaches, prospective athletes can find the required tryout paperwork on the CMS Athletics website, or get a copy from the front office. Note that a current physical is required, so make plans now to visit your doctor. Meet Mr. Blackley, Athletic Director, at Open House!

Hearing and Screening Notice

The speech-language pathologist (SLP) will conduct hearing screenings on any student suspected of having hearing problems, and/or those students new to CMS. A hearing screening can be requested by a parent, teacher or student. If a student fails two consecutive hearing screenings with the SLP, he/she will be referred to the school audiologist for a free hearing evaluation. Parents must sign a "Consent for Hearing Evaluation" form, prior to student contact with the audiologist. Parents who want their student to opt out of these hearing screening procedures, must communicate this in writing to the attention of the SLP. All questions regarding hearing screening procedures can be emailed to the SLP at

Free Breakfast & Lunch at QHMS for all students

We are pleased to inform you that Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) will continue to participate in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for School Year 2017-18. Schools participating in the CEP are able to provide healthy breakfasts and lunches each day at no charge for ALL students enrolled in the school. No paperwork necessary! Read more about the CEP Program.
