Principal's News
This week the dreaded COVID has hit our home! Feeling quite lucky we had avoided it for so long, reality hit and we have come crashing down with a thud! On the up now, and feeling grateful for the end of isolation insight and our health retuning.....in between the coughing and spluttering, the experience has given my little family and I a time to share all sorts of random conversations.
One of those was, 'What would you do if you won a million dollars?'
Have you ever had that dream or thought as well? We began with buying a caravan and traveling together, (although I think the reality of our current forced 24/7 company of each other meant that dream didn't last long), to buying a boat for ocean adventures to sharing our fortunes with our family and friends and helping others less fortunate than ourselves.
It was fun to dream for a moment but the conversations that came afterwards were the ones that really made us think. Would being rich change the people we are? Would being rich make for a better life? What makes someone rich?
In the Bible, a man asked Jesus to help settle an argument he and his brother were having about money. The man was dreaming of being rich, he hoped Jesus would take his side. Jesus felt sad that the only reason the man was interested in talking with him was to help him get his money (as though that‘s the best that Jesus could do for him). So, Jesus told the man a story about another rich man whose only worry in life was where he would place all his stuff. He just wanted to keep building bigger barns to put all his possessions in.
Jesus said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”
Luke 12:15
In this story, Jesus didn’t want to be a go-between two arguing brothers. He had something more important to share… himself. Money doesn’t make us rich, Jesus does. Go ahead and dream—not if you were rich—but you are rich!
We've all dreamed of having more, the world around us is constantly promoting 'bigger and better'! But when we sit still and reflect, it is not the money or the possessions that make us rich.
Thank you Jesus for your ultimate gift for us.
