Playground Roster

Just reminder that the new playground roster starts this week. Sharon has put the roster in for copying so you should get a copy in your pigeon holes.

Mother's Day Activities at Willmot PS

I know this seems early but I wanted to get this information out as soon as possible. Mothers' Day stall will be conducted by the P & C on the 8th May in the school hall. Could I ask Sharon to put a roster together for this (Sharon - students form the choir and the dance group will need to go first as they have to perform at a morning tea over at the Willmot Community Hub.)

Marsha and Sarah - the choir will be required to perform 2 songs and the dancers will need to perform 1 dance. The morning tea will begin about 10.45am (will get back to you with a confirmed time.)

All teachers - The Willmot Community Group would also like us to make Mothers' Day art works again. They will do the same thing that they did last year - auction the artworks at the morning tea they are hosting. All proceeds will go back to the school. Could all classes have their artworks sent to the school office by no later than Thursday 30th April. Peta Kennedy for Willmot Community Group will pick up the art on Friday, 1st May. (could Leanne put all of these dates on our school calendar please.)

Election Time

Peta Kennedy (Willmot Community Group) and Monique Hazell (P & C Vice president) attended a ministerial briefing at Bennett Road PS on Friday afternoon. Prue Car (state Labor candidate for Londonderry) and the shadow education minister were also present. An announcement was made that if Prue Car is elected in the state election coming up on 28th March, then Willmot PS and Bennett Rd would receive funding to upgrade the technical requirements and install air conditioning in every classroom ($300,000 election promise for Willmot PS!) Watch this space :-)

What a week!

It has been a pretty horrendous week for behaviour... On Friday we had 12% of our school on Reflection. This shows that our School-Wide systems are suffering...

AS a result, we need every teacher and SLSO to be vigilant in their duties of supervision. I have uploaded an Active Supervision fact sheet to our PBL folder on our Edmodo site (see sample pic below). You will also find it on common drive under Teacher / Teachers / 2015 / PBL / Active Supervision.

We are also working hard at introducing classroom PBL to as many classrooms as possible to reduce the number of problem behaviours coming from the classroom learning environment.

Problem of the Day

One of our school targets this year is teaching 2 and 3 step problems in mathematics. I am not sure how everyone is doing that in their maths lessons but I came across the idea below on one of the Maths groups I follow. It is based on the Probelm A Day approach. The examples I found are Kindergarten but I am sure our clever teachers could adapt accordingly. I have saved the Kindergarten Notebook files and the book examples in Teacher / Teachers / 2015 / Maths / Problem of the Day / Kindergarten. Take a look and see what you think. Would be good to talk about at your next stage team meeting...

Reading levels - info for parents

i really love the information included in the link below. It is a great one to share with parents... perhaps at teacher / parent interviews or maybe Danielle and Lorrinda could put something together for our parents when presenting the Willmot Wizard Program in Terms 3 and 4...

General Update

You may have seen Chris from e-Flo around the school last Wednesday. He will come in for a few Wes until we can get all of our tech trouble shooting sorted out. He then will come on a needs basis. He will also help Ashley and Phil to get the iPads sorted out and in to classrooms. We would like stage teams to come up with a list of Apps they would like to be downloaded - free or paid Apps. We have a budget...

Chris will also be helping us to work out which computers need to be sent to computer heaven... Sue Lake will send around a list - please write down any computers in your classrooms that are not in use and you are happy to have recycled elsewhere in the school or moved on to computer heaven. This list will need to be finished by Weds so we don't waste Chris' precious time and our money!

Danielle attended a webinar about the Android XO update. Hopefully this information will be shared with K-2 as soon as possible.
