Heads Up!
K-12
Big Idea
Based off of the Ellen DeGeneres game, use this strategy as a quick game to review key words and ideas from any lesson.
Directions
1. Write down the vocabulary words you would like to review on notecards.
2. Put students into groups of 2-4 students.
3. Explain the rules to the students: Without looking one student in the group will hold up the notecard, word facing the group, so that the rest of the group can see it and it is touching the student's forehead that is holding the card. Without saying the word on the card, the rest of the group gives hints, context, etc to get the person holding the card to guess the word. The same student continues to guess as many words as possible in a 1 minute time period.
4. Set a 1 minutes timer and let kids play the game!
5. After the time goes off, have each group count how many words they guessed correctly.
6. Record the scores and repeat for as many rounds as you have time.
When To Use

Strategy Variations
- Have the students come up with the words or ideas on the notecards.
- Put the name of a character from a novel, historical figure, or another person on the notecards. Have students give characteristics, accomplishments, or quotes from the figure to the student who is guessing.
- Put a graph on the notecard. Have students describe the graph in order to get the "guesser" to draw the graph on their own paper.
- Make it a whole class activity! 1 students goes to the front of the class and the entire class helps them to guess the word.
