THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR IS APPROACHING!
It is hard to believe that summer is almost over and the new school year is just around the corner. Our staff has been able to step away and enjoy this time to rest and refresh for the coming year. We all have been working to prepare to welcome our Dragons back to The Grove and look forward to an amazing year.
You will see a number of new faces around campus this year. We are fortunate and excited to welcome these new Dragons to our team. A couple of the ladies that you will see first are Cathy Ammermann, our new PEIMS clerk taking over for Cheryl Bischof, and Marcela Vega, our new principal's secretary taking over for Jolie Allen. These ladies will be among the first to greet you as you arrive on campus.
We are eager to welcome our Dragons back to Walnut Grove and look forward to the many wonderful memories that will be made as we learn together and #InspireExcellence throughout the year!

ANNUAL STUDENT VERIFICATION BEGINS AUGUST 1st
We are excited to welcome our Dragons back to school and the first step is for Carroll ISD parents to go through the Annual Student Verification process! Parents of all Carroll ISD students (including new enrollees) are required to complete verification for each of their students annually prior to the first day of school. This process is completed through the district's Skyward Family Access portal. Please log in to your Skyward’s Family Access account and complete the Verification process for each child starting Monday, August 1, 2022.

Visitor Information
We're excited to welcome our families and visitors back on campus!
- Visitors must enter through the front office. Please ring the intercom and one of our secretaries will buzz you in. You must show your driver's license on the intercom before you enter the building.
- All visitors must check in at the office to scan their driver's license using our Raptor Security System.
- Once visitors have been screened, our system will save your information. Every time you visit, you will use the Raptor Security System to sign in.
- All visitors must wear their name badges in the building at all times.
Can I bring my child lunch?
- Yes. But please only bring food for your own child - we don't allow other students to eat food that their parents didn't provide. We have special tables for visitors and the child. Friends stay at their classroom table. Keep in mind that the first week of school are half days and no lunch is provided. The second week is used to set up routines during lunches. Parents are asked to wait until August 29th for lunch visits.
Can I join my child at recess?
- No, as this, unfortunately, presents a safety concern.
Can I go back to my child's classroom?
- Yes, when you have an appointment with the teacher during conference time. You may also go to your child's classroom during special events (winter party, Valentine's Day party, etc.).
How do special events work?
- We have several events throughout the year that involve many visitors. Information will be shared through PTO, teachers, and our weekly newsletter.
- You will sign in through the front office the way you usually would. Please be advised that it takes longer on high-volume days, so allow time for a line.
Birthday Treats
Bring in store-bought treats with an ingredients label that says "Made in a Nut-Free Facility" and can be verified by our office staff. All treats have to be approved. Please call if you aren't sure if something will be allowed so we can avoid an issue!
Food Allergies
Carroll ISD restricts all peanuts and tree nuts from classrooms; this includes daily snacks, birthday celebrations, and class parties. All food items brought into school for classroom consumption must be coordinated by the classroom teacher, be store-bought, and have an ingredient label attached to the packaging. Any label that states the following is NOT permitted in the classroom:
- “May contain peanuts or tree nuts”
- “Processed on shared equipment with nuts”
- “Manufactured in a plant containing peanuts or tree nuts”
- “Contains peanuts or tree nut ingredients”
For safe food options please visit snacksafely.com. For more information, please contact the school nurse, Susan Hogan, at 817 949-4400 or SUSAN.HOGAN@southlakecarroll.edu
