RIDE Recognizes Pre-Engineering Program Seniors
In the Level IV Pre-Engineering class, students have been hard at work Designing and Developing unique projects that they hope will make s difference in people's lives. For example, one group that has seen a challenge for people with disabilities in how they add items into a shopping cart. They feel that individuals in wheelchairs have a huge disadvantage and might not be able to reach and ultimately place objects from the shelves into their shopping cart. They plan to use their knowledge of robotics to design a robotic arm that will assist wheelchair patrons with the luxury of shopping with ease.
The next group has been working diligently with a national certified Apple accessory company to develop a charging device for an Apple Cell Phone and other Apple devices. This device is specific for the Apple trademarked MagSafe® high speed charger, because this is a registered device these students have many hurdles to overcome. This is why it was extremely important to combine forces with Popsockets®, a certified developer of Apple accessories.
A third group has taken their love of golf, focusing on the act of putting. Their design idea is to take all the best parts of current and classic putters and make the ultimate putter. In order to do so they are working with local PGA™ associates to research and develop the best putter in the market today.
This Engineering Design and Development class is an "open-ended engineering research course in which students work in teams to design and develop an original solution to a well-defined and justified open-ended problem by applying an engineering design process". Electrical Program Seniors Partner with Habitat for Humanity
Representatives from Habitat made contact with Mr. Heatherton, asking if some of our students could wire the house. On Wednesday 2/7 & Friday 2/9, Mr. Heatherton, took 8 of his seniors to the job site for two full school days. They worked diligently under the direction of the Habitat electrician, and by the end of day 2 had roughed in the entire house; including running the main service line from the outside of the house, through the meter and into the service panel in the basement.
The Habitat for Humanity crew was so impressed with our students they plan to invite them back in a few weeks after the interior finish work is done to install all of the electrical fixtures to the home.
One small step for Alyssa, one giant leap for the Dental Program!!
Congratulations to Alyssa P. The first student in the History of EPHS CTC to be placed in a Dental Assisting externship. She started working at Dr. Romani's office in EP this week. Alyssa is at the office about 5 hours per week during the school day, and can't believe how much she has learned in such a short time. Her teacher, Mrs. Paniccia is so proud of Alyssa, she represents the Dental Program so well!!!
