A Note From Your Principal
Dear IES Families,
Thank you for your participation in our second annual Virtual Curriculum Night. We are always so excited for our families' deep commitment to being actively involved with Irmo Elementary and your child's learning. Your next formal connection will be arriving soon as we begin to schedule virtual parent/teacher conferences for October. The votes are pouring in for our four parent seats on the 2021-2022 IES School Improvement Council. With eight wonderful candidates on the ballot, you still have the opportunity to vote through 9/22 at 11:59 pm. Please see the information below. Finally, as a reminder, we will have our first early release day of this school year on 9/23. The gate for the car rider line will open at 11:20 am and dismissal on early release day will begin officially at 11:40 am. We are looking forward to another wonderful week in the heart of the hive!

The IES School Improvement Council (SIC) is an advisory council to the principal that is focused on school improvement issues. It is made up of representatives of parents, teachers, and community members. The SIC meets monthly during the school year to discuss areas of school improvement and support at IES. We are selecting four parent representatives for the 2021-2022 school year.
- As a reminder, parents have the opportunity to cast their vote electronically between September 15-September 22.
- Please select four representatives below by September 22nd at 11:59 pm.
- See the link below to learn about the parent candidates and to access the virtual voting link.

School District Five releases statement on Richland County Ordinance
In response to the ordinance passed August 16, 2021 by Richland County Council mandating the wearing of face masks by students, staff and visitors in public and private schools, School District Five of Lexington and Richland Counties wishes to make the following statement:
School District Five is comprised of two counties, Richland and Lexington, with half of our schools located in each county. To provide consistency for our School District Five family, the district will continue to follow the 2021-22 budget proviso 1.108 in all of our schools, which states that no school district may require the wearing of face masks by students and staff in educational facilities.
We continue to strongly encourage students and staff to wear face masks and to consult with their individual health care providers about other mitigation measures, including the vaccine. The district has and will continue to follow all safety measures recommended by state and federal authorities related to the pandemic.
We encourage the community to visit the School District Five resources page at www.LexRich5.org/COVID19 for information on mitigation strategies and procedures.
Safety is our top priority, and we appreciate the cooperation of our stakeholders as we return to school to educate our children.
