Terrace Middle School Newsletter

Volume One, Edition 2 • October 2016

  • TMS parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for the week of October 10th-14th. Monday 10/10 is a regular Collaboration Day with dismissal at 1:25. Tuesday through Friday, students will be dismissed at 1:15. Please make necessary transportation/childcare arrangements ahead of time in order to accommodate this schedule.
  • During conferences, teachers will be discussing many ways for parents/guardians to be apprised of student grades, attendance, and important school events/fundraisers, etc. (PowerSchool, Remind and planbook.com). We realize that the multitude of communicative avenues can be overwhelming; therefore, the conferences' face-to-face nature is an invaluable tool for you, your child, and the school to learn about how to improve the school-to-home communication loop.
  • Please note that, as part of the Lakeport Unified School District's LCAP goal of increasing parent involvement, teachers are encouraged to keep track of parent/guardian attendance during the week that conferences are scheduled; please help the school district attain its parental involvement goal by attending your child's scheduled conference. Thank you!

The parent/guardian survey that we administered during Back to School Night revealed that 83.7 percent of our families prefer first to be contacted via cell phone, and 71 percent listed email as their second-most preferred method of communication between school and home. Furthermore, the frequency with which parents and guardians would like to receive communication is on a weekly basis (72 percent), followed by 31 percent who noted daily communication (Facebook, webpage). With this in mind, we created a REMIND account for Terrace Middle School. During our Parent-Teacher Conference Week, we will be encouraging parents/guardians to sign up for Remind in order to better streamline our school-to-home communication keeping in mind their preferred platforms and frequency.

Sheriff Brian Martin Delivers Backpacks & School Supplies to TMS Students

The Lake County Sheriff's Office - in conjunction with the Lake County Deputy Sheriff's Association and the Bay Area Deputy Sheriff's Charitable Foundation and Family Giving Tree - donated brand new backpacks stocked chock full with school supplies for students at Terrace Middle School. If your child - or your child's friend, a neighbor, a teammate, etc. - would benefit from one of these donated backpacks, please contact Lakeport Unified School District's Student and Family Advocate, Schad Schweitzer, at 262-3007 ext. 2190.

Have you and your child logged into PowerSchool?

The Lakeport Unified School District uses PowerSchool as its Student Information System (SIS). You, as a parent/guardian - and your child - have access to current grades and attendance via computers/laptops and mobile devices like tablets and cell phones. Please contact your child's teacher or the school office for assistance, and remember that our school's code for the mobile app is LHLS.
