Making Connections

Dear Hunting Ridge Parents and Guardians:

I hope that everyone enjoyed a restful and relaxing long weekend. Although Labor Day is officially over, our work together is just beginning. Like any relationship, the home-school connection is strengthened with communication and respect. This month we are working to get to know our learners academically and within the social context of the classroom. If there is anything that you believe your teacher should know about your child to help us in these beginning weeks of school, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Upcoming Dates:

  • Wednesday, September 14, 2022 - 7:00 PM - WRS
  • Saturday, September 17, 2022 - 8:00 - 12:00 PM - Hawk Hustle
  • Tuesday, September 27, 2022 - Picture Retakes

Fondly,

Mrs. Ortlund

Report Cards and Grading

Recently, parents and guardians were notified about changes to the upcoming school year report cards. Our district is moving to a standards based report card which emphasizes levels of understanding of a specific skill or concept using a scale of 3, 2, 1. A 3 will indicate mastery of the skill. A 2 will indicate your child is progressing. A 1 will inform you that your child is developing within the skill and standard. The report card will continue to separate social skills and work habits from academic performance levels. This change will create consistency in assessing student performance among teachers within and across buildings in our district.

Arriving to Hunting Ridge

Arrival

Please remember that students should not be dropped off on the Harvard side of the building. There are many cars and buses that may not easily see students. For their safety, please drive to the Mallard side of the building. For students that live on Harvard, please walk to the bus exit and follow the sidewalk safely to the lower blacktop.

Car—We ask the students arriving by car use the Mallard Drive car loop only. Cars pull into the lot from the South, proceed through the line, and exit the lot on the North. Drivers will be directed by staff when to allow your children to exit the car. Students MUST exit from the passenger side. Please do not get out of your car to release kids from car seats or to open the back seat door on the driver’s side. If children cannot independently exit from the passenger side, parents should park on the street and walk them to the blacktop area. From the car line, students will proceed directly to their grade level entry door. Drivers will exit Mallard Drive being careful of pedestrians.

Dismissal:

Please make sure that the office knows of all changes to student dismissal plans. We want to make sure that we get kids safely to the proper place.

Absences from School at Hunting Ridge

We ask for help from parents and caregivers to call our attendance line each morning by 9:00 AM to let us know if students will be absent from part or all of the school day. This helps us communicate with teachers and properly record absences. Students that leave school before the end of the day will need a parent to sign them out in the office.

Students that are sick or gone for appointments or family emergencies can coordinate with classroom teachers what lessons and assignments were missed during that absence. These students will not be participating in virtual learning when not at school.

DENTAL EXAMS are required for students in kindergarten, second grade, and sixth grade. The dental examination must have taken place within 18 months prior to May 15 of the school year. A dental provider will schedule visits during the school year. If you would like your child to participate, please reach out to your school nurse. All students in the required grades are required to have either an exam or a dental waiver in their health record. A dental waiver form is available in the case of an undue burden or lack of access to a dentist. The IDPH Dental Examination form (English/Spanish) and the waiver form are available here and in the school office. If a student fails to present proof of a dental exam or a waiver form by May 15, the school may withhold the student's report card until the student presents proof: (1) of a completed dental exam, or (2) that a dental exam will take place within 60 days after May 15.

EYE EXAMS are required for students entering kindergarten and entering Illinois schools for the first time. The exam form, completed and signed by a doctor, must be dated within 13 months prior to the start of practice or tryouts, and on file in the school nurse's office. Physical forms (Certificate of Child Health Examination forms) are available in the school office and online.
