Recorder Karate

We are starting Recorder Karate this month! Students have taken their first "Belt Test" over Hot Cross Buns (White Belt) and will continue with more tests after spring break. Recorder Karate is a curriculum for learning the recorder. As students become more proficient on their instruments they earn "belts" in the form of ribbons they attached to their recorders.

Visit the Recorder Karate page http://hobart.schoolwires.com/Page/8278 for more information regarding this program, as well as instructional videos and printable music. Students also have QR codes in their books that correspond with the songs on the website. Simply scan the code in your book with a free QR code reader and open the webpage for extra help.

Students can also submit tests from home by emailing or texting the video to Mrs. Amsler at amslerclass@hobart.k12.in.us (be sure to put your name and class in the subject heading).

Garage Band Project

We've been creating accompaniment tracks for Hot Cross Buns using the iPad app Garage Band. Students began with a drum track and recorded several other instruments over top. We are excited to finish these and present them after spring break!

"Mad Minute" Tests

We are continuing our study of reading music with our "Mad Minute" test series. Students have 1 minute to name 30 note names that they need to have memorized. Memorizing note names improves students’ overall music reading performance; it decreases the amount of time to translate written music to instruments and allows students to move onto more challenging concepts.

We are tracking our progress so that we can see if they are improving on their music reading skills. Please support your student by helping him/her practice with flash cards or the optional worksheets that are sent home!

If you have any questions or concerns about this program, please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs. Amsler!
