Principal's Corner
Greetings,
Unfortunately, our Holiday celebration will be a bit different this year. Teachers are asking parents to please donate money to help pay for party expense. You will receive a letter from each homeroom teacher.
As always, MISD respects religious beliefs of all students. If your student cannot participate in Holiday celebrations, please send your homeroom teacher a note so accommodations can be made.
Thank you very much for your continued support! Parental involvement and support will help to build a strong foundation in the life and education of our children.
Love always,
Mrs. Pittman

STUDY TIPS
1. Set (and keep) a schedule
2. Make sure they have any materials necessary to complete all assignments
3. Provide an environment conducive to learning
4. Create a daily plan
5. Don’t teach–help them understand
6. Make sure all work is completed
7. Help them check messages and communicate with school
8. Keep in mind that it’s about the child, not the work
9. Learn to identify the barriers
10. Use school resources
4 Types of Social Cues
Social cues are the signals people send through body language and expressions. Many kids with social skill issues have trouble picking up on social cues. When kids miss social cues, they can misunderstand people and situations.
1. Facial Expressions-We use them to express how we are feeling. It can be frustrating when someone fails to "read" how we are feeling.
2. Body Language-Sometimes an emotion is so strong, it affects the way we hold our body. Body language can be involuntary or done on purpose. Either way, it's an important way of communicating. People can feel annoyed when the signs they are giving off with their body are being ignored.
3. Voice Pitch and Tone-Certain moods call for high or low voices and fast or slow speech. Changes in voice can sometimes change the meaning of what's being said. But some kids take speech too literally and miss the nuances.
4. Personal Space-If we're interested in someone, we tend to move closer to them. When we take a step away, we signal that we'd rather keep our distance. Standing too close or too far, can communicate something kids don't mean to say. But, you can help your child learn how to notice and interpret social cues. Learning to understand these clues, will help your child interpret many different types of social situations more easily, and to respond accordingly.
