From the Desk of the Principal
January 29, 2021
Dear Masconomet Middle School families,
It looks like this newsletter did not widely distribute as I planned, so I am resending. My apologies on the delay!
We have reached the halfway point of the school year, and today marks the mid-way point of the second trimester. If you have not done so in a while, please check your child(ren)’s grades in PowerSchool. This is a good time for students to take stock of any missing assignments and work to make those up. It is also a time to improve grades with plenty of weeks left in the marking period. Teachers are available for extra help during WIN blocks and after school. As always, if you have any questions about grading or assignments, please contact your child’s teachers. I have multiple updates to share with you this week.
Upcoming Calendar Dates:
• February 1- Delayed opening at 10:00 am- please see the schedule attached and below
• February 13-21- Winter Vacation
February Vacation Travel
If you plan to travel out of state for February vacation, you are required follow the Massachusetts Travel Order.
Many teachers have noticed that students are not fully engaging in class on their remote school days. Students appear distracted, they leave class, or they are not paying attention. Remote school days carry the same expectations as in-person school days and students need to fully engage in their classes. Please make sure that your child(ren) are present and engaged in their classes as it has a direct impact on their learning and achievement.
The Middle School student council will be conducting a food drive to support local pantries from February 8th through February 15th. We recognize that these are difficult times for many families in our communities, and we want to do our best as a learning community to support those in need. A detailed description will be posted next week, but in short students can deliver food to the school, directly to the pantries or even via an Amazon wishlist link to make it accessible to all students. We are grateful in advance for any contributions that can made to help make life a bit easier for those in the Tri-Town community.
The following Excels are running beginning next week: Cooking, Baking, Mindfulness, Sign Language, Among Us, Creative Writers, Anime, and Photography. If your child is interested in participating, make sure you submit the paperwork to Mr. Cobb or have your son/daughter bring it to school and leave it in the yellow milk crate in front of the main office. Excels begin next week!
The 2020-2021 yearbooks sales have been extended. The cost is now $25 through January 31st. This will be your only opportunity to order a book this year.
Please be sure to have your child’s period 1 teacher’s name available as this information is needed in the purchasing process.
Mask breaks will continue outside through the winter season. Please make sure that your students wear appropriate cold weather clothing to school to be outside for 10 minutes.
Have a good weekend,
Philip B. McManus, Ed.D.
