Overdrive eBooks!
GCISD has recently acquired access to eBooks through the Overdrive platform. You may recognize the name, Overdrive, if you read eBooks from your public library. This is a new resource to our Glenhope students and is very easy to access! When building the collection, the content of the books were considered for elementary students. Go to the link below for a short video about how your child can access Overdrive and it's features both at school and at home.
End of 2nd 9 Weeks - Unfinished & Late Work
The end of the 9 weeks is next Thursday. When we return from holiday break (Monday, January 8th), we will be finalizing grades in Skyward. Please help your child complete their late/missing work over the next few weeks. Skyward is a great place to keep track of the work they owe!
Thank you!
Growth Mindset - Perfection Doesn't Exsist
As the cartoon indicates below, which step have you reached today? It's a good reminder that no one can be 100% growth minded all of the time. We all have moments where we slip into that fixed mindset, where we doubt ourselves, and where we want to give up. Understanding growth mindset allows you to become more aware when you've slipped into that fixed place so that you can work to get yourself out of it! We've also found that continually working on growth mindset seems to lessen how often you have your fixed-minded moments!
GT Corner
Creating Innovators, a book by Dr. Tony Wagner, discusses the decline of innovation in America over the last 20-30 years and highlights young innovators across the world. It all indicates the importance educators have to foster innovation in young people and the duty we have in asking children questions that don't have "Googleable" answers, to help them identify problems out in the world, and to work out ways to solve them. You can view the book by clicking the link below. Fun tip: if you purchase the iPad version, it includes videos of innovative children mentioned in the book!

5th Graduation Photos
Please send photos of your Gator by the following Due Dates:
• As soon as possible, but no later than December 18th: 1 Kindergarten photo of your
child by themselves; 1 photo of your child participating in a Kindergarten activity; 1
recent photo (2017) of your child; and 2-3 additional photos from Grades 1-4, including
Sky Ranch (group photos are appreciated) (6 photos max for K-4 photos)
• February 28th: Photos from Fall/Winter 5th-Grade Events such as Sock Hop, Perot
Museum Trip, Fall Fest, Holiday Party, Valentine Party, Choir Performances, etc. (group
photos are appreciated) (3 photos total)
• April 28th: Additional 1-2 photos from Spring events and “last call” for photos that you
forgot to send previously (group photos are appreciated)
Guidelines:
• These should be your best and preferably highest-quality photos. Send full-sized
.jpgs, which should be at least 500 KB.
• Photos from out-of-school events will only be used to make sure that all students are
included.
• EVERY student will be included, but we might not be able to use every photo since we
need to keep the video 30 minutes or less in length. Thus, group photos are
appreciated.
• New to Glenhope? No worries! Please include 1-2 kindergarten photos of your child
and a recent photo in addition to photos from the 5thgrade year as mentioned above.
The How-To:
• Please rename the file that you’re sending to include: Child’s First Initial, Last Name,
and Grade Level. For example, John Smith’s kindergarten photo would be
JSmithKinder.jpg and Jane Doe’s 3rd grade photo would be JDoe3rd.jpg.
• Using one of the following options, please send your photos as soon as possible based on the dates above:
o Option 1: Email your photos to gatorvideo2018@gmail.com
o Option 2: Load your photos onto a thumb-drive and send it to school in an
envelope labeled Attn: Liz Chalmers, 5th Grade Video. I’ll do my best to return your thumb-drive in a timely manner.
o Option 3: If you only have hard copies, please contact me for assistance. Thank you so much for your help! Please email gatorvideo2018@gmail.com with
questions.
Sincerely,
Liz Chalmers
