You can't make this stuff up!
My husband is a prof. at AU and school started this week. He gives out his phone number to his students in case they have some questions about his class. He also reminds students that although their day might be starting at 10:00 p.m., his day is shutting down at this time. (It's his polite way of saying, "don't call/text me after 10:00 p.m.) On the second day of classes, around 9:35 p.m. he received this message from a student:
"Dalton here from your first aid class at 9:00. Sorry to text at this time, but you did say you shit down around 10:00. I have a question about the homework. It says chapters 1/2 and I read those but wasn't sure what session 3/4 meant."
Let's just say, the student quickly wrote another text stating, "Shut down! So sorry" I'm pretty sure we laughed for about a minute straight! Great reminder to reread your messages PRIOR to sending them out! You can't make this stuff up!
"One Raspberry" by Gerda Weissmann Klein
In 1939, Gerda Weissmann was living in Poland when the Nazi army took over the house and Gerda's brother was deported for forced labor. In June 1942, Gerda's family was deported to the Bielsko ghetto. While her parents were transported to Auschwitz, Gerda was sent to the Gross-Rosen camp system, where for the remainder of the war she performed forced labor in textile factories.
It was during this time a wonderful story took place that is now documented in the book called "One Raspberry". These are words of Gerda in her book, “Ilse, a childhood friend of mine, once found a raspberry in the concentration camp and carried it in her pocket all day to present to me that night on a leaf." Imagine a world in which your entire possession is one raspberry and you give it to your friend.”
Can you imagine this in your life today? One possession and you give that to your best friend. Aesop stated, "no act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted"...
What a great reminder for all of us. My challenge for you this week is a small act of kindness. Write a card, give a hug, smile, compliment someone on how they look or find another way to show kindness. Be intentional. You never know how much this could mean to a friend, student, co-worker, or family member.
